. Also, in terms of the "move up" crowd, UM needs to meet certain academic offerings in order to belong to certain FCS conferences. This kind of grant is a big step in the right direction.
Good post.
Really? Last time I checked UM has belonged to an FCS conference for over 35 years. I doubt their academic offerings without the grant would cause expellation. Especially when benchmarked against institutions like SUU.
It sucks to say but Montana is more on par with SUU as far as research money than it is with schools like Washington or Oregon State.

Kemajic you are correct of course I meant FBS. PAC 10 and Big 10 conferences (not saying we are trying to get there) require member schools to have certain programs (eg med schools) in order to be considered peers as a requisite to conference memberships. Not sure what standards MWC has...

You knew what BG meant. And he's accurate.

Just like we don't believe SUU, ewoo, and others to be our academic peers, the big boys of the FBS world wouldn't consider Montana to be on their level. If we wanna get there, this is a great first step.

Good news...maybe the sky is not falling for the gloom and doomsayers...

To have first class athletic representation we have to have first class academic and research!

Invigorating the academic offerings will be important to any hope of moving up too.

I would just like to say "dittos" to this, it is often overlooked. You know the flagship institutions in some of the larger conferences are selective in their admissions policy, only taking from top ranking percentiles of high school graduates, and there is a lot of competition number wise for a limited number of slots. Not the case at UM yet, but when you talk about moving up, keep this in mind as well as the kind of company you will have to keep.

I know, lets do it like the left always does, make your conclusions, then scrape together some BS evidence which will make the Corps happy, then take the rest of the $45 million($44,999,000) and put it into Griz football, move to the MWC without the f***ing Cats, and live happily everafter.
Or, check your agenda, write talking points (lies) to support it, then put the money into the next campaign....

Do you mean talking points like points like "Iraqi has weapons of mass destruction" or "Iraq actively supports Al Qaeda"?

Actually, lies are when you know the facts when you make the statements. There is a far longer and more recent list, isn't there?
Fast and Furious - I read about it in the paper.
Bengazi - Why does it matter anyway?
If you like your current health care plan, you can keep your plan
If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor
IRS targeting conservatives - not a smidgen of corruption. But we'll take the fifth...
VA - 2009 - if there are any problems in the VA, we will fix them promptly.
This State Dept. supports Israel unequivocally.

Griz football hangs in the balance.....
