...#4...

Far from overrated, but I agree w/ the rest. The Pack are far from my favorite, having only cheered for them when they play SF, NYG, Wash, & Phili. However the guy amazed the sh!t out of me.

He needs to stop thou, his rep is fading fast.

I find his behavior rather self serving. The season is coming up and he all of the sudden realizes he wants to play? If he thought he might have had second thoughts, he should have postponed his decision until this time of the year. He looks like a spoiled brat who is running to television to tell everyone that "the packers are treating me badly." Of course the fans want him back. He is a fricken icon. He has handled the whole situation horribly.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if he came back and played another year or two and then retired again and no one came to the press conference to hear him cry?

I am in no way a Favre hater. I think he is one of the best to play. I just don't like how this is playing out. He has put the Packers in a no win situation.

Regardless of one's views on Favre and what ability he may or may not have left, the Packers are in PR freefall right now. If they release him as he asked, they get slammed locally for not only "giving up" on a sure HOFer, but also get flack for not getting ANY value for him. If they trade him, not only to they get slammed locally for dumping him, but who really has the value necessary for what he's worth? They could give him permission to seek a trade deal on his own, but at least if a trade is involved, the Packers would have SOME control over where he goes; if they merely cut him, there's always the risk that he could latch on with a divisional rival, which would be disaster for the Packers particularly in terms of a PR backlash, but also practically if Favre turns out to be good this season. As far as keeping him, the Packers could OFFICIALLY bring him back as the backup, but that begs the question of whether or not the training camp "competition" would truly be open. If not, Favre would be essentially screwed, and, again, there's the local PR hit. If it IS open, there's still a minor PR hit, but it would be mitigated as soon as Favre is named starter. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to bring Favre back as the starter and trade Rodgers. Most backups in this situation would be disgruntled if they lost their job in this fashion, so a "change of scenery" would be good for him, particularly if he were sent to the 49'ers or the Raiders.

Bottom line is that , regardless of who's right here, butts in the seats are what matter, and if GB fans get the idea that their idol is getting the shaft, they may well start no-showing home games. Of all NFL teams, GB can least afford this. Bring back Favre and send Rodgers back west. To me, that's the best thing they can do.

Uhh... no.

That'd be like if the 49er's would've brought back Montana in his last year and traded Steve Young.

The only problem with that is Brett isn't as good as Montana and Rodgers only hopes to have the talent of Young.

Rodgers is no Young. If you could somehow get a first rounder for Rodgers and have Brett commit to one year with a team option on a second (depending on Brohm's progress), I'd be down.

Agreed, however I think Rogers has the potential to carry the legacy and keep this team on top.

Rodgers should at least get a chance. I feel bad for the guy. At least he's banking some cash.

You make some good points. However I don't think there is any risk of Packer fans not showing up for home games. Packer fan's are putting their unborn children on the waiting list for season tickets.

Why anyone announces his retirement when he did was stupid. He should have waited until this time to see if he had the desire and all this crap would have been avoided.

The only problem with that scenario, putter, is that if a guy waits until training camp to pull the trigger, we either have teams banking on the guy being there and all of a sudden they don't, or we get guys playing on the Clemens Plan.

BOTH sides are wrong here, but it's set so that the Packers have HUGE PR issues. About the best situation is what happened after Otto Graham retired the first time. He returned because Paul Brown asked him to. He didn't stick it to Cleveland like Favre has stuck it to Green Bay (the organizations, not the fans).

I'm not a Packers fan, but I've loved Favre almost since I started watching football. But this is too much, and I just can't side with him now. He said he was done, he had the emotional speech, and the Packers went on with their franchise. I have no idea what he is doing or why he is trying to tarnish his legacy as a top 5 QB of all-time. I just do no get it, at all.

No player at this stage of his career "tries" to tarnish his legacy, Drew. Favre honestly believes that he still has what it takes to be a winner. Certainly, the last three or four years before this past one, it didn't look like that was the case. But remember that he had no supporting cast for quite a while. Last year DOES lend credence to his supposition that he still has something in the tank. Time will tell.

A return may well "tarnish his reputation," as you put it Drew. But rest assured that he is NOT trying to do that.

Then why did he just retire a few months ago? What was the point of that? It's just way too much arrogance for me... retire and then expect the team to welcome you back with open arms and give in to whatever you want. Sorry Brett, it doesn't work that way.
