#4 seed Pittsburgh versus #13 Montana

For the record …

“Here’s a few tips:” should be “Here are a ….” - another proper use of quotes, by the way.

On the same subject, quotes can be used for colloquial or folksy words (or phrases) – such as “grad”, which within the sentence can be capitalized if irony is intended.

“Quotes indicate a writer is speaking or writing another's words.” Not always (see above).

“Let’s” is a contraction, not a conjunction.

Ellipses come in fours when the portion omitted ends a sentence. Use of ellipses is proper when the author chooses to write briefly, as in quick notes, emails, and even posts, and is typically appreciated by the reader.

The first word of a sentence is not capitalized in some circumstances, such as beginning with certain proper names. von Schmidt rode his Harley all day.

“Lowercase words in the remainder of the sentence unless they are proper nouns.” is an incomplete sentence.

Lower case, lower-case, upper case, upper-case …

… and `weekend’ can be `week-end’, which is technically not one word.

Now, almost certainly I made a mistake here (or two). Please don’t (another contraction) bring it up. Not worth it. (To end with an incomplete sentence).

Actually, being a Stanford "grad" I can say thanks to people like yourself that might be true. But, lets see what the real stats, are.....undergrads at Stanford who do not go on to advanced programs might actually earn less than the counterpart at UM....It is the Grad programs at Stanford that shine.....and the athletic programs that are funded extremely well......you can do that with billions in your endowment.....Now, just what your post has to do with the Lady Griz playing Pittsburgh, I don't get...but I give the slow and ponderous Lady Griz a good chance for an upset this year if Brittany Lohmann plays better than she did this week end, and Ena remains as quick and talented as anyone on the Pitt team...Morales doesn't strike me as a great player, more than a good player in a bad league...she is very slow but can hit if she has the time.....still, she now has that Ena girl to help out....very impressive player...Go, Lady Griz! This one is winnable....

OK, pal. I'm ready for some real stats. Let it rip when you find some. And learn how to spell and punctuate, which might make your bogus Stanford story more plausible.
Here's a few tips:
Weekend is one word. In a sentence, you might say you spent the weekend on eGriz pretending you were a Stanford graduate.
Let's is the proper conjunction of let us. Using lets where let's is needed makes you look like a dope.
Yourself is a reflexive pronoun. It shouldn't be used when trying to establish your superiority with a well-aimed dig like "I can say thanks to people like yourself that might be true." Thanks to people like you, I can always find a dope on eGriz pretending to be something he's not.
Ellipses come in threes, not fours. They're used when you're quoting material and want to omit part of the quote. If you want to omit part of your own posting, there's no need to use ellipses. Stop typing or use the backspace key.
A learned person knows that it's bad form to quote one's own self. Quotes indicate a writer is speaking or writing another's words.
For example, if I cited your use of the term "grad," I would put it in quotations to indicate it was yours. If the word had not been previously introduced by someone else in the dialogue stream and I was introducing it, then putting it in quotes would be stupid.
Also, the first word at the beginning of a sentence always begins with an uppercase letter. Lowercase words in the remainder of the sentence unless they are proper nouns. You shouldn't capitalize the first letter in the word "grad" if it's in the middle of a sentence, even if you're talking about a Stanford grad.
I know the tips I'm giving you aren't college material. Most of this stuff is delivered to students by seventh grade. However, I know if you don't have a firm grasp on simple spelling and punctuation, your application to Stanford will be tossed in the trash.

If my daughter had offers to play basketball from Stanford and Montana, I would urge her to select the Stanford offer, even if I was a Montana coach. I wouldn't have to denigrate coach Selvig to make my case.
So, you see? Even you could do better than some Stanford undergrads.....what is your point? Are u feelin a bit inferior???????And, what the hell is your point about "denigrating" Selvig? Damn, you got issues of projection, hon..

Who cares about spelling, punctuation, grammar ,etc? This is a fan website for petes sake. Can we get back to basketball please?

Wow! Holy cow a freaking bunga!

This has become tedious. You left out the dangling prepositions. Snooze me into next year.

Is this a sports forum or a place for frustrated English teachers?

I say, Go Lady Griz! You have what it takes to beat Pitt. They will try to out physical you. You have seen that this year. I think you know what to do.

I thought that last year too. Lady Griz hitting the 3's could have been a difference until I saw Vanderbilt flat out shut down the outside shot with their speed and hustle. I hope not, but it could be the same.

- never has a program as successful as montana's made fewer curtain calls
- we haven't won a game since 1995
- nor have we won a w.n.i.t. game, losing most recently to utah and wyoming.
- every year get slammed back to reality

It's the dirty little secret about the Lady Griz. But then we don't judge their success or base our satisfaction on post-season play... it's entirely different than football. And since it will probably always be that way, let's let it be - that way.

UM men's or women's basketball? Football? Take your pick. While the powers that be continue to relegate Griz programs to the Big Sky sandbox there is little reason to expect much more when they go up against better programs that have tempered their talent against stronger, more competitive programs through a whole season. Particularly in basketball, the "one and out" results are simply the self-fulfilling prophecy of a shortsighted administration dedicated to "doing it on the cheap." Don't expect an improvement anytime soon. I feel bad for the handful of Griz athletes who will graduate from the program without ever having known how good they might have been. The Adams Center, Main Hall and The Regents deny them the opportunity of ever having found out.

then i guess its fortunate for them that they're receiving an education to aide them in becoming as good as they can be!

The subject is athletics. Most would agree that strong athletics and a superior education are not mutually exclusive.

The best argument I've heard for moving up. Comments during playoffs about the Griz program being too dominate for the Big Sky and taking note of the few gaps between conference championship flags has it starting to make sense.

On the other hand, they are getting a quality education funded largely by money that would otherwise be directed to athletics...unless, of course, you are willing to give a lot more, and accept a tax increase to fund the University of a sparcely populated state that desires more competitive action?

Bush bailout plan (Wall Street).

Obama stimulus plan (Main Street).

Did they rename Wall Street and I am not aware? I don't really want to get into politics but I am disgusted with all things DC. Obama has been a disappointment thus far and I am a Democrat. I was hoping he would not surround himself with typical DC scum but he has and it shows.

It is far easier for a basketball program to reach parity than football. You're talking maybe 3 marquee players and a half dozen backups ,plus you can play in a far less auspicious venue than the Adams Center. The East is full of Villanova's and St. Johns. Cal State Northridge made a great run today against Memphis and their gym is smaller than my double car garage. You guys need to switch from thinking "Why?" to "Why not?" I find very interesting that former BSCers, CSUN and Gonzaga both improved their basketball fortunes AFTER leaving the conference. And why not? They're facing better competition December to March. UM has zero excuse for not producing a better men's program. The fan base is simply waiting impatiently for it to happen...and waiting...

Sorry, Tip, but, even when offered free admission, the fans didn't show up to watch the basketball version of the Griz. You and I have disagreed many times -- and will probably continue to do so -- but UM has no business "moving up." There certainly is not the money to do so, and I sincerely doubt the fans are interested in getting whipped on a regular basis, no matter what the sport may be, which is what I believe would be the case should UM become a member of, for example, the WAC. I recognize that you are going to tell me that we "aren't dreaming big enough," but my response will be (as always, as you already know) that we who object to moving up are the realists.
