What was the bad coaching? I haven't seen the video. Only skimmed this thread. Thx.
A few things stood out to me:
- going for 2 after they scored to go up 12-10. I get that you want to force the other team to score a TD to beat you but the risk is you can lose if you fail and they kick a FG. Their defense had only given up 10 at that point. I kick the PAT and trust the D, especially after they lined it up and were outmanned 6 guys to 3 on the play they were trying to run
- the clock management was atrocious (something I think Choate has struggled with a ton since he’s become coach...there are many examples over the years of his awful clock management before a half or at the end of the game. This one was equally as bad. They had 4 + mins and took nearly 2 off the clock just to move the chains once. After that it was a cluster
- to add insult to injury they didn’t burn or use either of the 2 TOs they had left. They literally ended the game in a hot mess of clock management issues and kept 2 TOs in their pocket.
- the whole thing was seriously hard to watch.
Thanks to all who offered suggestions. The SWX app has it free on demand if you are in the local region. It wasn’t the most exciting game to watch, but Choate’s face at the end when ND went ahead was priceless.grizbymarriage said:Thanks!!!!!!get'em_griz said:grizbymarriage said:If someone spots another replay of that game, could you give a heads up? The written description was great, but I can always use another good laugh!
Download the SWX app. They have the Kitty replay up on the app.

MSU thought it was a good time to establish the run.

I may or may not have thrown things after each delay of game was taken without using a TO.

Yes. Yes it was.

I don't have a problem with the decision to go for 2. If it works, it's a great call. If it doesn't, it's a horrible call. Coaches often make these calls based on momentum and instinct at the time.
Are you thinking the play-calling was bad, or what problems did the coaches create? As opposed to lack of execution or mistakes, or great plays by the the opponent. I'm not understanding how the coaches' clock management was bad, as opposed to the qb's timing/delays and plays not working. Not saying that it wasn't a coaches' problem either.
When should the TO's have been used?

The decision to go for two was a marginally bad one, the called play was horrendous. As to clock management, the Cats had the ball at their own 25 with just over 4 minutes in the game, they acted like they had a whole quarter left in the game. No hurry up, hardly a sense of urgency. The delay of game penalty was inexcusable and rests solely with the HC. Given their offense, they cannot take that penalty at that time.
