saying holmes is going to be one of the greatest players in the history of griz football smacks of distortion, not objective reporting. distortion is the basis of propoganda. i'm as excited as anybody about this year's teams, but still prefer brint's reports. much more balanced, more reliable.

I also thought that was a bizarre thing to say, especially from a school-related source. Putting "best ever" in a sentence about a guy that's still in his freshman year of college? Qualifying it with a "could be" really isn't enough. Not a lot of coaches would be happy with that kind of stuff being printed about a young player.
1. He's a sophomore.
2. Did you even watch last year? Kid was a true freshman, and was doing great.
3. Reports from other people (including other players) have been that he's been absolutely wrecking the O's shit.

Mark it down. He'll end up being one of the best DEs we've ever had.

He's a sophomore eligibility-wise, but still in his first year of college. Which means, if he's anything close to the average 18-19 year old, he's not completely mature. There are a number of players throughout the history of college football who have started out their college careers strong and then faded. Losing the chip on the shoulder is huge.

"Guys, he may get worse. I've seen it happen to tons of other kids who aren't Tyrone Holmes. I don't care if he's playing even better now than he did all of last year, where he excelled beyond everyone's expectations, the point is that he might get worse. So please stop saying he's good. It makes me uncomfortable when players I didn't think would be good end up being really good."

With that exact same logic, I could say he's still not mature and only going to get better.

Happens all the time. 8-)

Cool report, bummer that Griz fans aren't going to see Van on Saturday.

not only did I want to see what makes van so much different,,,,now, my thought goes to why is he is hurt,,was it just a fluke or does he have a history of concussions, thus the transfer? proabably nothing to be concerned about, but a good r/b that cannot stay healthy is of little use,,,ie. moore

If Tyrone stays healthy I think he will be one of the best DEs to ever put on a Grizzly uniform and he will do #91 justice.

He ate Kistler's lunch multiple times in the first scrimmage and let's just say I'm not worried about Kistler's skills and abilities.

The combination of Holmes and Wags has me very very excited, not to mention the rest of the front 7.

Tyrone does need to work on his run support, that will come with practice and film study.

Of course he can still improve, and I'll be rooting for him. But never underestimate the power of the chip on the shoulder and motivation. Something like only 38 percent of 5-star recruits end up being drafted, at all. That's alarmingly low, IMO, considering they're the 25-30 most gifted players of their class and 3 short years later 250+ players are drafted. That's all between the ears, I think. As soon as a player feels like he's arrived and he has nothing to prove his career might as well be over. Some players are mature enough to handle hype, some aren't.

Jesus, the leaps you're making here are astounding.

You have exactly zero evidence that any of that will happen to Holmes, and TONS of evidence to the contrary. :|

You're projecting so much here we should hit the lights off and get you a goddamn screen.

I'm sure you'll be rooting for him, but not as much as you'd love to be proven right, right?

Classic eGriz.

Whoa . . . speaking of leaps. I never made a prediction or projection about Holmes so I can't be be proven right about anything. All I said was that it was kind of a strange statement from the author of the gogriz.com article, and then spoke generally about players sometimes not living up to expectations when lots of hype is placed in their lap. Take it easy, man. TGIF.

The part about suggesting that someone would like to see an 18 year old from their alma mater fail for the sole purpose of having their egriz avatar gains some marginal street cred is classic egriz, though. I agree with you.
