Maybe it’s just me, but I really liked how they used to give it to a promising young player that had it for a few years and had to kind of “earn” the jersey as he went, instead of it becoming basically the “Preseason Montana-Born Defensive MVP” award every year or two. :twocents:

I didn't enjoy how it pretty much disappeared under Pitcher though.

I definitely agree that there is a fine line to maneuver around, especially because since 2010, the University has gone all-in on using it for promotion and hype, and unfortunately Carson Bender's nagging injuries made it fall out of the forefront a bit.

However, as I've said in other threads on the subject, I don't really like how it "celebritizes" the player who is wearing it, especially with two recent players who have underperformed relative to the hype that surrounds it.

It's just interesting that from 1986 until 2010, the shortest 37 term was three years, and since then the longest term has been two years. 8 players in the first 25 years, and now 5 players in the last 7 years.

Don't get me wrong, I love the tradition, but I've felt it's gotten a little over-hyped the last few years.

Morning, fellas. (*awkward curtsy)

Umm....I haven't had much time on the field but I WAS born and raised in Montana. I practiced a bit with Mick Delaney and I already paid to have the name put on it. Just a thought....I mean, if I don't get a Brinty or whatever...

I would think it would go to Sims. Sims is a very good player. He is also a d-lineman, and Schye would know him very well and I assume likes him. I have no inside knowledge on the subject.
