So many things have been criminalized, the comment is likely false. You can't know that.
Be that as it may, as the first seven pages of this thread illustrate, this is an example of "criminalization," and lynch mobs at work. "Get them!" screamed the crowd.
They stood in an empty room on a construction site. Law Broken. Half the people on this thread, older and wiser, have broken that "particular" law, out of the innocuous impulse to look at construction, the motive NOT being to "break the law."
In rational world, the reasonable reaction is to point out the possible consequences of trespassing, that even without harm or intent, it is against the law, and "Don't do it again."

What is painful are the first seven pages of "hang 'em high" comments on this thread, before there was even a news article describing what happened, followed by subsequent comments that resemble an argument that if we don't stop criminals now, what will we do when they come for our land and our children?
This is how societies become self-serving mobs seeking self-gratification at the expense of others. Fifty years ago, the police would have arrived, gave the guys a stern lecture on the sidewalk, and said "this is against the law, no harm done, but don't do it again." Can you imagine Doug Chase arresting these guys and sticking them in jail with $50,000 bond, more than most crimes?
No. Because it's stupid. Four young guys doing something stupid doesn't justify a hundred other grown adults doing something even more stupid: seeking persecution.
I just recently received some messages from many ticked off people from various areas concerning the 3 Griz arrested. I will post some of the comments below.
Engstrom: "If I could have reached coach Stitt that night I'd have fired him"
Florio: "Must have been a young helpless girl involved, otherwise why would boys crawl up a ladder"?
Pat Williams: " Griz Football players are all thugs, I'd let the other two off"
Growler/Atlanta/Dill: "I'd fire the contractor for leaving the ladder up, pure and simple all his fault"
Coach Stitt: "I just want to know why my players were working on that house in the rain"?
Missoula Mayor: "We need to buy the Griz Football Team to save them from themselves"
Marcus Karma: "If it was my home I'd fire a full clip in the dark and find out what that noise was"
Missoula City Council: "What if they had a gun? Lets pass a new law to keep our streets clean"
Coach Krammer: Must have been 5 players not just 3"
Coach Ash: "You Griz folks think you have problems? What about us poor Bobcats?"

I've watched the Missoula mob of greenies, flower children, Griz haters and the like trespass daily all over Missoula with their dogs on private lots/undeveloped lots and open space (patted canyon, Maloney ranch). Always thought that conduct deserved a stern "don't do it again". But now I know to call for police and ask for arrest and $50k bond. Thanks, MSLA police and hypocrites for setting me straight.

If they don't want that added responsibility don't wear the jersey. If for no other reason than to protect the image of the athletes that do the right thing this PR mess hurts all the athletic department and how it is handled from here on is being watched with a very close eye. Police charges are out of Stitt's hands...but how they stand on the football team is not.

OK, I'll admit it. I have entered unsecured construction sites multiple times in my life as an adult. I even played on the heavy equipment that was being used to build the interstate through Missoula when I was a kid. I never got caught and clearly my early behavior led me down the path of being a repeat offender. Had I gotten caught and severely and publicly punished then the community would not have suffered the shame I have brought upon them. Instead I graduated college, had a family, and now run a company but my life is certainly a lie built on the honor I stole from my peers. (I have learned from this thread that Melodrama cleanses the soul and I am now whole again. Praise eGriz!)
My heart was broken when I first heard about this incident. Naturally, I then had to take a look here on egriz to find out if anyone had inside info. Not seeing any inside info but really wasn’t surprised that the lynch mob was taking shape. Kind of expected it as past behavior is the best indicator of whats about to come down.
I just wanted to understand what in the heck happened. Who the hell would commit a burglary with five people involved at the site of the crime? That never made sense.

Ursus I don't agree with you on any level. Reposting dirt before The County Attorney has reached its conclusion shows that you refuse to let the facts come out. If Haslam has this same attitude he should have said they are permanently suspended and removed from the team at that point. Maybe, just maybe, as the dust settled calmer heads prevailed. My suggestion to you is wait and see how things progress.

Meh. After that whoop ass PSU laid down the only place those players should have been at 2:30 am was in the weight room. If I'm Stitt I'm suspending their asses just for being out that late. There's plenty of time after the season for carousing.
