$290K for Sacred Heart

We cleared close to a million even after paying them. You can't be this obtuse can you? Plus home games contribute massively to the local economy. This was an FCS game and we made way more money net than had we played an FBS school and paid for our charter and meals away.
An old family friend always used to say, "Some people, if they don't know, you can't tell 'em."

I think of him a lot when reading egriz.

Got to spend money to make money. So you are suggesting we should have taken the bye for the week and made no money?

Seems like forking over a chunk of the gate $ to cover travel and expenses for an east coast team to come over here since they couldn’t do a home and home so that we could make some additional money makes a lot more sense in the world of NIL. How can we move up without exhausted every possible revenue opportunity?

Thx for the post, I've been curious how things work this way...decent bottom line!

I cannot imagine the outcry if the Griz played an NAIA school. Oh, I surely am not advocating it; fans were upset enough with Div II Cent. Washington. Like it or not, Sacred Heart is a legit FCS program that came into Missoula with a 5-2 record.
I would rather see us play Carroll, Montana Tech etc rather than some of the teams on our schedule. Let’s hear you pontificate Helena.

The largest $ ever paid to bring a team in to play the Griz. They could have got Carroll a lot cheaper.
And I'm glad that a team such as Sacred Heart accepted the invitation. Pretty good game on their part, considering they came all the way from out of Connecticut to do so, also considering their level of competition so far. I appreciate their effort and their moxie to show up for the game.
I hope the tail gates and Missoula were gracious hosts for the visiting fans of Sacred Heart, without too much bereavement over the quality of the opponent. Sacred Heart played the game beyond my, and perhaps many others, expectations. I hope they have a successful season forthwith and enjoy playing the game; injuries are not part of the game. I appreciate their effort. Go Griz!!!!

Good comments. Fully agree with you. Thought their team put up a great effort. Always glad to see our guys play someone new.

Met the parents of a Sacred Heart player. They were very impressed with Montana, Missoula, and the Grizzly game environment. Their son told them “he could feel the turf shaking” when the crowd got roaring. That made me smile. Again, glad to see someone new (who isn’t NAIA or Div 2).

In the new world of college football...that's not a lot of money. What was the economic impact of having another home game in Missoula? I'd be will to be a lot more than $290k. Sacred Heart was a fine tune up game before heading off to ballSac St. this week.

My thought was it was not a bad exercise for the coaches for the playoffs to prepare for an unknown. Now were back to the known teams, many of whom commit staff to watching Montana for a year to prepare for the matchup.
To paraphrase Bilicheet, 'on to Sacramento.'
