5-7 teams could qualify for bowl games
Bowl Games, NCAA, NCAAF |

The Insight Bowl (will be called Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl next year) could feature a team with a losing record.

Currently there are 35 bowl games equaling 70 Teams  looking for a chance for teams to treat their fans to a trip to obscure places like Boise  at the end of December.

The NCAA Board of Directors earlier this week approved a selection process for bowl games that includes a chance for teams that finish 5-7 to be selected to play in a bowl.

The 5-7 teams, if they have a top-five score on the Academic Progress Rate, can be selected to participate in a bowl game.

Here are some of the other proposals for teams to go bowling.

A 6-6 team with a victory against an FCS school.
A 6-6 team with two wins against FCS schools.

A 6-7 team that loses its conference championship game
A 6-7 team that played a 13-game schedule such as Hawaii and any school that travels to Hawaii to play a game.
FCS teams making the move to FBS if they finish with a record of at least 6-6.

A 5-7 team if that team finishes with a top-five APR score

The fbs just keeps looking better and better.

What we wish is that we had CPSLO on the schedule this year; we could use the break.
We will see who is laughing come December. :D
We will be doing just fine, like always. No 4-7 years here like CPSLO.
Like I said, we will see come December. Last time you guaranteed something I won a case of beer. Care to double down on who will finishes the season ranked higher in the GPI?
What do you say kemajic?

The only way to double up that bet will be face to face. Since that one was won in 2010 with a two point win in SLO, the double up needs to occur with the next meeting in Missoula. Inexplicitly, you were not extending such offers for the 2011 Missoula game, a 14 point win for Montana.

There is no comparison in 2012 schedules between the two programs; CPSLO being embarrassingly lame. Zero preseason top 10 opponents, neither MT school, not even SUU. A 40-59 combined 2011 record for schollie FCS opponents. And you, the constant critic of Montana scheduling.... No wonder you like the Fullerton Folly 13.

Nope, the difference is you were on your high horse before 2010 when I said I thought that Cal Poly had a good chance against the Griz. You point out our 4-7 record from the year before and our past record against the Griz. I pointed out that in 2009 we had an all new coaching staff and were replacing 9 starters on offense and that in 2010 that the Griz were replacing their coaching staff and a ton of starters. You pointed out the Griz all time record against Cal Poly and I pointed out that most were against a Mustang team with only about 40 scholarships and almost all were in Montana. Neither were the case in 2010. I said if you were so sure of yourself I would bet you a case of beer.

This year Montana loses their head coach, OC, DC, 9 starters on defense, their starting QB and have many off the field distractions and still you sre talking big. If the Mustangs were playing the Griz this year I would bet on the game with you. They are not so I went to the next thing which is how each team finishes the season. My whole point in 2010 is each season is different and while history is important, you can not ignore other factors. In my opinion those factors are pointing to Cal Poly having a better season than the Griz and I am willing to wage the case of beer you owe me on it. Are you?

As far as our schedule being embarrassely lame the only thing we control is ths OOC games and we have San Diego at home, at Wyoming and at Eastern Washington. Nothing lame about that and better than the Griz most years. The Griz do have a great OOC schedule in 2012.

I'll take you up, Slo, but not on some lame computer generated formula. Just overall record. :thumb:

The factor that favors CPSLO is a 2012 BSC schedule that avoids playing any of the preseason contenders while Montana plays them all. An offshoot of Fullerton's Folly 13. As I said, I'll double up with you next time CPSLO is in Missoula, presuming you don't disappear like you did in 2011. The first bet was face-to-face in SLO; the double up needs to be face-to-face in Missoula. You are very selectively brave, so I'm not holding my breath.

Your on. Now no bet involved, who will have a better year in 2012, Montana or Cal Poly?

I don't know much about CPSLO other than their schedule and last year's performance. I did not see a lot of muscle on the line of scrimmage in the 2011 team. I like the Montana team; it will be stronger than many detracters hope. They will be playing with a chip on their shoulder and have the offensive horsepower to cover for a new QB. Better year to me means only how far you go in the playoffs, since the schedules are so imbalanced. I like Montana to get farther in the playoffs than CPSLO. Familiar ground for Montana; CPSLO, not so much.

Great point. Cal Poly will be traveling to schools that they haven't played in recent memory. It will be interesting to see how they play against schools they are unfamiliar with.
