I wonder how this will effect the regular season play? Will teams schedule less games anticipating a longer post season, or will it stay as it is?
I would guess the only difference would be that there would be 6 play-in games instead of four. The season was extended a week when they went from 16 to 20. Just what's needed in FCS, more money-losing games that do not impact the NC.

That would be one weird bracket, with only 6 play in teams, how in the hell would the other two teams get into the bracket?

A much better an obvious solution would be to have 8 first round games and 8 first round bye's, that way you aren't leaving two teams out in purgatory

Nice try but we all know um doesn't teach math :thumb:
Nice try, but we all know MSU doesn't teach reading or math. 6 play-in games = 12 teams, bimbo.

Not that my opinion matters much, but I'm not particularly in favor of 24 teams, however, it is what it is. The one possible situation that might be a benefit is in the case of a team that starts out poorly and then starts to gel as the season finishes out....and finishes say 7 - 4...with 24 teams, that team has a better shot at getting an invite and could well be a competitive force in the playoffs. EWU last season is a good example -- a quality team that didn't start out well (and suffered lots of injuries) but came back strong at the end. I'm not sure if they are adding automatic berths for more conferences, but I would assume that the at large invites will grow as well.

Good Post!

There is nothing we can do about the decision anyways. I figure that the "lesser" teams that make it in will be blown out anyways, and if there is a cinderella team that does well then good for them. Maybe it will spill over to FBS, that would be awesome. As far as our loss at EWU, it happened, I'm over it, congrats. to them for winning it all that year.

Hammer....you are the one with a serious problem if you really believe FBS is the worst of college football. That said, I don't really care what you think..have another OLY. :D

The further watering down of an already weak gene pool....plus more opportunities for more injuries and less in-class time for "student-athletes." A lot of coaches will really hate this dumb decision - but there will be a lot more "participation ribbons" for a lot more marginally deserving kids.

I like good competitive football, at all levels. I also recognize the fact that there is very good football played at levels below the NFL and FBS. It just so happens that those are my two least favorite forms of football. I love FCS football, and NAIA games (Tech) are very fun to watch. I also love a good HS football game, but you would never stoop to that level since you believe anything less than FBS is just pure garbage. I also like to watch little guy football in Butte on saturday mornings, but you are way above that also.

Once you're at 24, there's nothing to stop you from going to 32.

Besides, wouldn't that be more fair? Nobody (like the elite eight), would get a week off to rest. Everybody would have to win 5 to be camps. (I jest)

we'll be seeing the non-scholly teams San Diego, Drake, Dayton, and more MEACs -- not necessarily more Big Sky teams...

Hammer....I agree with most everything you said. My son was qb on a Billings championship Little Guy team and I enjoyed every moment. Every level of football is fun to watch. I just don't like UM mired in a community college conference when they should have been in a more competitive conference 15 years ago. Its a moot issue now as they are doomed to be in the Big Sky for the foreseeable future....you will be happy!

Sure, let's just eliminate the importance of the regular season altogether to keep it "fair."

I guess you did not see he posted (I jest).

With all the changes the Griz have gone through this last year you may wish the were going to 24 teams this year. ;)

We will be doing just fine, like always. No 4-7 years here like CPSLO.

24 is too many. A fifth of all FCS teams in the playoffs.

Certainly better than half of all FBS teams in a bowl. :thumb:

If it doesn't add another week to the playoffs, and gives all conferences an auto bid, then why not?

Since the SWAC and Ivy League don't participate, it's closer to a quarter of all teams, really.

It could be worse we could be like these guys...Oh wait half you Dumb Asses want to be like them...

5-7 teams could qualify for bowl games
Bowl Games, NCAA, NCAAF |

The Insight Bowl (will be called Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl next year) could feature a team with a losing record.

Currently there are 35 bowl games equaling 70 Teams  looking for a chance for teams to treat their fans to a trip to obscure places like Boise  at the end of December.

The NCAA Board of Directors earlier this week approved a selection process for bowl games that includes a chance for teams that finish 5-7 to be selected to play in a bowl.

The 5-7 teams, if they have a top-five score on the Academic Progress Rate, can be selected to participate in a bowl game.

Here are some of the other proposals for teams to go bowling.

A 6-6 team with a victory against an FCS school.
A 6-6 team with two wins against FCS schools.

A 6-7 team that loses its conference championship game
A 6-7 team that played a 13-game schedule such as Hawaii and any school that travels to Hawaii to play a game.
FCS teams making the move to FBS if they finish with a record of at least 6-6.

A 5-7 team if that team finishes with a top-five APR score

The fbs just keeps looking better and better.
