2026 Non Conference Schedule

Is there any chance we play two FBS’s next year?

I am all for playing a MWC or PAC X team every year, provided they are willing to cough up $ 700,000 to 1,000,000. I think the kids look forward to playing a FBS school and so do our coaches and fans, who travel 🤔 🙄 😀 really well. !!!

But two FBS games can lead to season-ending injuries--a higher likelihood. I think that's a very bad idea--ask Barney @ PSU.

I hope we schedule Utah for 2027, they have an opening with a game we will need to replace and I selfishly would love to see the Griz play in Rice Eccles
They're not gonna replace a home game with a road game. Especially when we're gonna rotate between 4 and 5 home conference games a year.

So, you're saying you want to leave the BSC and be an independent after the plan failed to move to FBS and now you want help filling in your schedule?

Maybe we should adopt the bubs scheduling philosophy and add Mercyhurst.
Don't look now, but they are actually tied for the lead in the NEC even though they aren't playoff eligible until 2027. I hope they finish first, a team that was 3-7 I think at D-II the year before they moved up winning the NEC says a lot for that bunch. If Chicago State doesn't go broke before they can put a team out on the field, they'll be fully competitive right away as well over there.

I don’t care about all those non scholarship conferences might as well be D3 teams. The only relevant conferences when it comes to the FCS are the Big Sky and Missouri Valley.

If Utah paid enough to make it worth it I definitely think it should be pursued, but as I said it's merely a selfish wish of mine. Another home game makes sense and is 99.9% likely

I'm not disagreeing with you on that, and I didn't say anything about playing them. I think the whole NEC and most of the Patriot should be dumped into D-III when Saint Francis goes.
I don't agree that there is a P2 in the FCS and everyone else is left out. That sounds a lot like the Southern Conference back when they still had Marshall.
If a team doesn't offer scholarships though, to me, that is exploiting the athlete for the gain of the university and where they argue that this is the only way they can operate, I say, shut it down then.
I'm not sure why it is that you have a need to trash on my posts where you clearly are twisting the words around on the meaning behind them.

Same could be said about a few Big Sky teams due to financial issues and lack of support, Portland State in particular comes to mind and EWU hasn't been exactly in great shape for awhile either. That's one reason I like the idea of moving up/have the top of FCS move up on a new Conference (but that's for a different thread).

Honestly could be argued FCS should consolidate into 6 Conferences (Big Sky, MVFC, Southern, CAA, UAC and Southland) add teams that fit/meet financial threshold, toss teams that don't. Each conference has 12-14 teams at most and then have everyone else drop down.

I was pointing out why I am not following what Mercyhurst is doing for the rest of the season. Whoever comes in for this game it will probably be someone from one of these non scholarship conferences. Central Washington is a more interesting opponent they at least are from the same part of the country as Montana.

The Patriot League is gonna be a lot better next year with Villanova, Richmond, and William & Mary all joining. Plus Lehigh (who comes to Missoula in 27) has really taken it to the next level.
