Still no announcement from Fernandez or Claypool. I don’t think we’re dead yet but I do wonder if they’re implementing a backup plan with how long the decision is taking from these 2.

It means we are offering big guys for the d line. Law of averages. If we offer 5, we might get 2. If we get some commitments, the noncommittal dudes won’t have a scholarship available here when they make up their minds. I love it.

You are exactly correct. Look how many DL recruits we offered and also how many DL guys we’ve offered via the portal…..1 DL commit out of 20ish? 0 DL commits over 260 pounds. Granted, just being a big guy doesn’t automatically make you a run stoppin, block eatin sombitch…..but it doesn’t hurt either. If all else fails, we need Ramos to step up and we need Mason to develop. Mason showed some really good stuff on film. Grimsrud was originally brought in as a d-lineman converted to OL….maybe we got a younger guy that we can develop from OL to DL? Glass half full today boys.

Choate has a huge challenge right now. He will be lucky to keep his job longer than two years. Tough place to recruit to.

Perhaps, but historically, they have had a great program. The right coach can win anywhere.
Begging players in the portal is not a winning strategy. The griz need to develope players with strength and conditioning and good coaching. Currently it doesn't seem we have either.
When Hauck had his pick of the HS players it seemed we developed them. With this portal merry go round we can't seem to attract them.

The Griz attract very good high school players and develop them. And they use the Portal.
If you're looking for over twenty players a year in the portal you're not developing very many HS players. It would be different if Hauck was just stepping into this situation after a coach had left a mess but that isn't the situation is it?
Clearly he is struggling with stability since the portal has become a thing. He can no longer just bully everyone in the program. And by definition your getting someones cast offs in the portal unless your P4 and your getting players with the talent to move up.
