2025 Transfer Thread/ Portal Offers-- (31) Transfers to UM

Given this not unexpected news and it's timing, this question needs to be asked.

Do any of you suspect, (as I do), that Logan Fife made his intentions known to the Coaching staff some time ago, and that is why we did not see him play against SDSU?! It would make sense.

It's just the reality of the transfer situation now. No FBS QB (without baggage that we don't want, anyways) that has substantial FBS stats that look good is going to come here when he can go somewhere at a higher level.

Every QB we've gotten from an FBS team that I can remember in recent history had a very small sample of stats, and that's almost certainly going to be the case for whomever we bring in this offseason.
Good point.Lucas Johnson had some pretty decent games as did Fife but they also had some games they struggled or dealt with injuries. Sneed who is one of my favorite players in the Bobby 2.0 era went JC route after playing as redshirt freshman at UNLV. Which I think made him appreciate his opportunity. He seemed to love being a Griz.

I don't think he did and don't think it did.

Loved Sneed. One of my favorite GRIZ qbs. Too bad, his last game at Weber State was so impacted by bad weather and bad luck.

I am concerned about recruiting quality talent from the transfer portal given events surrounding the Griz QB transfer from last year Logan Fife. Are other quality players in the portal going to have second thoughts about coming to the Griz?
Honestly this is my greatest concern, with how poorly and publicly they handled the QB situation this season there's a real chance it might keep quality QB transfers from transferring in.

I really don't think this is going to be an issue. People said the exact same thing about this after Britt left, and then we landed 2 guys, one of whom lead us to the national championship.

Do you think players talk anoung themselves about these things? Now we have at least a couple high end transfers that have had bad experiences with Hauck and his crew. What do you think Vidlak or Fife are going to say if some potential QB in the portal who actually has options, gives them a call?

Probabaly negative things because they thought they should have played more. Just like most guys in the portal. And then guys could then look at Vidlak and see he is on his 4th school and Fife who entered portal before Bowl game after being benched and then decommitted from Minnesota after a week because they signed another transfer and put it all in perspective.

Almost 100 QB’s in portal on day 1, (including Huard and McCoy). Fife name not added yet. More to come with this round and more in the spring.

Do you think Fife talked to Vidlak last year and showed up anyway, or didn't talk to him?

Either way, I still don't think it's a big deal.

Maybe. I am not sure they were “high end” transfers and it didn’t work out for each of them for different reasons. As for Fife, he was likely on a short leash after the back-talk episode and the leash was pulled after the two fumbles against Tennessee State. Hauck has always been clear about repercussions for fumbling. A clear signal was sent in the SDSU game, and sometimes life is just too short. I admire Fife for taking a risk and rolling the dice for next year. He was a good player for UM but it didn’t work out and I wish him the best.

Britt was the first QB in the portal in Bobby 2.0, so saying that his transfer had no impact is probably true since Vidlak and McDowell transferred in '23, but up to that point, only Britt had transferred out

That said, now we have to add Vidlak and McDowell and Fife to Britt--4 QB's in three years. So yeah, I think this history now will scare some, not all, QB's in the portal from considering us !

And a quote Britt gave at the time in 2022 when he entered the portal means maybe more now that it did at the time since 3 more of our QB's have entered the portal: " I just felt I wasn't developing enough as a player in the quarterback room."

He developed himself into a starter at the D2 level after riding the pine at NAU and Looks like he was 114 of 184 for a 62% completion percentage 1172 yards and 7 td for the Northern State Wolves.

More frustrating that we can’t seem to find the multi year starters whether through recruiting, transferring or developing.

So did Britt’s development improve after he left UM? McDowell was injured after leaving and didn’t have much of a year, but he also praised Hauck. Vidlak was was beat out by a QB who took UM to the national championship game. Fife argued with Hauck on the sideline, which made the news, then crapped in his own bed by fumbling twice against Tennessee State. Some people way overthink these things.

Yeah, I am not saying losing all of these kids is 100 % all our fault--I am not saying these kids are all angels and our staff is 100 % to blame. I am saying that we could probably do a better job of recruiting in the first place to make sure the kids are a good fit so that we reduce the time and effort and expense in developing a kid only to see him leave.
