2025 Transfer Thread/ Portal Offers-- (31) Transfers to UM

I am concerned. Not counting the incoming Freshmen, there are only 7 LBs. 2 Seniors, 1 Junior, & 4 Sophmores. Wow............. I never thought I'd see the day.
I am worried about that as well. And we lost Cooper Barnum, Riley Wilson, Isiah Childs, Ryan Tirrell, Vai Kaho, Garrett Hustedt, Erich Osteen, Cooper Walton, and Marcus Evans. Granted Marcus, Cooper and Erich didn't play much but that is still 9 LBs gone. If one or two get injured we get thin really quick. There's always the spring portal too so hopefully we add more depth there

Justin Green 💚 and our intelligent, hard-working coaching staff are very aware of our LB situation and either will sign one or two more kids from the portal, play an incoming freshman or freshmen because Coop and T Hauck think he/they are ready to play now, or all of the above.

I think we'll be fine !!!

Yep 💯. Plus, there is more than one LB on the roster that is not currently listed that way. Great athletes too.

New guy, don't mind me. LB was my area of concern early in recruiting with DT and WR both in that mix as well).

For LBs, I got 11 in my order of likely to start on down:
Elijawah Tolbert
Caleb Otlewski
Geno Leonard
Clay Oven
Cy Stevenson
Hayden Opitz
Derek Moreland (?) (Needs some work from film I saw. He stops his feet a lot and needs to get lower, may not have the speed for LB in our system, but may be a good Rush End)
Styles Goodman (FR) (Could be further up from film I watched)
Grayson Pibal (LS but played LB in HS, doubtful he would ever mix in)
Colton Lentz (FR)
Bridger Salvevold (FR)

Does anyone know the status of Tommy Running Rabbit and Cody Schweikert? Both played LB in HS, but I think they are nowhere near the top of the depth chart for their offensive positions, but could easily add weight in a good off season.

I really think landing Caleb Moran would be huge, but would like to see one more bigger name at LB.

You are missing Grady Walker…keep eyes on him at LB next year as redshirt frosh. He is all of 6’4” 225 now. Came in as safety but played all year at backer on practice squad as frosh.

Also I bet Cody Schweikert plays there if QB doesn’t work out.

I know they really like redshirt frosh: Oven, Stevenson, Opitz. I bet 1 starts and all 3 play some next year.

I hope we can land Moran too, I think it would really round out that position group. Cody was taking snaps at QB but he has a way better chance of seeing the field if he switched over to linebacker 🤔

Good to hear about Grady. I had him listed as a wide receiver. Pretty sure that was his offensive position at Sentinel. His speed will help him greatly at linebacker.

He would make 12 for sure at LB without Running Rabbit and Schweikert. That is one more than 2024 and one less than 2022 and 2023.

I would guess the starters would be Tolbert, Otlewski, and likely Leonard with Oven, Opitz and Stevenson getting the rotation reps. Unless they find one more tested option in the portal. I could see Walker, Goodman (just got a feeling about him), and maybe Lentz pushing for ST reps.

Obviously linebackers, safeties, and corners make up a big chunk of your special teams. I honestly think with the names mentioned LB is an untested group, but a high potential group.

I am excited for Grady at LB, he will be a stud there. Greatbsize, great athleticism, great instincts.
