2025 FCS 1st Round Week 14 Playoff Schedule

Really half of the first round games are going to be blowouts.

I mean I know it's arrogant to say this, but they really don't belong in the playoffs, but I understand the Automatic Qualifiers are going to get in. Some teams win, some teams lose.

CCSU - Placeholder auto bid
Yale - Placeholder auto bid
Drake - Placeholder auto bid
Harvard - Placeholder, total garbage and should have NEVER been given an at-large.
UNoDak - Shouldn't have gotten an at-large
SIU - Shouldn't have gotten an at-large
UNH - Shouldn't have gotten the at-large
Lamar- Shouldn't have gotten an at-large

Teams that deserved the at larges (IMO):
Monmouth over UNH
Western Carolina over NoDak
UTRGV over Lamar
Presbyterian over Harvard

Again just my opinion and I watched all of these teams play multiple games. The NEC, Pioneer and Ivy league will never be competitive in the playoffs, unless it's an academic playoff, then everyone is in trouble.
I agree with a lot of this. Not saying you're arrogant at all. I just think UNH will make it closer (until we see which SDSU team shows up), and Drake will make it a little closer (lost 42-21 in regular season).

So you think nonscholarship Presbyterian deserved an at-large bid? UTRGV played 3 sub D1 games, so no at-large bid. Reality, when you get to those final at-large it is a crapshoot and an overall nonfactor.

We can argue over who got in and who deserved to make the field until the cows come home, it happens with every bracket in every sport. There are going to be snubs and things that can't be explained, like why UC Davis gets a first round bye.

Out of those 8 teams you list this team in over that one, the only one I can see that there could be an argument for is Monmouth, but I agreed that the committee left them out because they lost to then 1-10 Albany at home worse than the 7 point margin would indicate.

Despite the fact that I hate having a bunch of teams from one conference going in (why play the regular season) I can't agree that Western Carolina at 7-5 should go in over UND. Compare UND's losses (K-State 38-35, UM 24-23, USD 26-21, NDSU 15-10, SDSU 34-31) to WCU (Gardner-Webb 52-45, Wake Forest 42-10, Elon 37-31, Mercer 49-47, ETSU 52-35). UND lost 5 games by a total margin of 17 points and all four of the FBS teams are in the playoffs. WCU lost two games by 17 or more points and only one team is in the playoffs.

Presbyterian should not make the playoffs just for their nickname. They weren't in the first four out, and while they had a quality win over Mercer, they also played two lower-level teams, including and NAIA opponent. That means they were 8-2 against the FBS, while Harvard was 9-1.

No way I would ever consider UTRGV a playoff team. They played 3 lower-level games, two from the NAIA. Additionally, they lost the head-to-head matchup against Lamar.

I respect your opinion, but I disagree any of the four you suggest deserved a bid. As I said, Monmouth was the one I would consider, but that was an unforgiveable loss and I agree with the 24 team field as it is. I would be more in favor of reducing the field back to 16 and get rid of all the first-round blowouts you note before looking for replacements.

....looking like the Jacs are fighting back...we be a tough game
in Missoula
If they make it to Missoula. The playoffs are supposed to be a test and they haven't gone through anything unique. Like so many other athletic teams, they endure what life has for anyone and call it adversity to motivate players into thinking it's them against the world.

The Ivy League beat down has begun. The playoff committee completely fucked that up. Allowing 2 Ivy League schools in the playoffs?!?!?? Playoff committee failed by diminishing the greatest playoff system in all of football. One of those shit teams took a spot that should have gone to a big sky school. Hopefully they learn

Agree. FCS doesn't/cannot produce 24 playoff quality teams. I would take it back to 12 like FBS.
So you don't think North Dakota should be in? I could see them making it to the semis.
Would be great to see the semis being a replay of NDSU - UND and MSU-UM
I think its OK to have some blowouts in the first round while those teams deserving of seeds get a bye week to heal and prepare.

Absolutly, 12 teams seems like a good number.. even then there would be ass kickings....3-4 teams this year are legit.. NDSU, Montana, MSU. For sure and then maybe Tarleton State and that's a big maybe.. that's it..

I have to eat crow.
Yale 43- Youngstown 42

I can admit when I misspoke

So we should let a committee decide instead of a playoff football game?
The team we play next Saturday have a legit shot at returning to the Natty.
While I love being one of the year in year out favorites of the FCS, I am OK with the possibility that if we have a few key injuries during the regular season that we can recover and get a chance to compete in the playoffs

Fair enough. I was WRONG about Yale in a big way. I have to eat crow on that one. Man. I didn't expect them to take it to YSU the way they did. Youngstown was not a bad team. I watched them all season, because well, I live in Ohio and they pretty much only show regional games, and they played well all season. They dadgum near knocked off NDSU. So that game was a total surprise, and the Puds better not sleep on them, especially after watching them play YSU. That team is good.

I shamelessly admit I have a bias against East Coast teams. I see your point about UND. They proved it on Saturday as well. Okay, okay, so my UTRGV comment was biased. My friends son plays for them I wanted to see RJ play in the post-season.

I argued for Presbyterian based on their W/L record. They should have been in over Hahvaaad. That team did not belong in the playoffs, and I cannot for the life of me understand that choice.

I firmly believe Monmouth got robbed. Again I went the other way because of my childish bias against pretty much everything east of the Mississippi.
