Imagine how much worse the o-line would be if Germer wasn't a good coach. UM gave up 1.55 sacks per game, 5th in conference and 30th in nation.
So UM was 5th in conference and you thinks that qualifies as good?
20,000+ fans and me don't buy our tickets every year expecting to see the Griz being 5th in conference and calling it good coaching.
We were 6th in the Big Sky with a 4-4 conference record. We had 6 STATS All-Americans and not a single one was for their offensive performance.
Every year we excel at Special teams. We have outstanding Linebackers and a strong DB crew.
What we don't have and haven't had is OL quality and consistency like we see in other positions on the Griz.
I thought the OL played their hearts out and improved as the season wore on but to say they were not the #1 weakness of this year's team just doesn't fit with what I and so many others saw.
If we get Chris Walker back then there will be no excuse. And there shouldn't be one after next year too. Saying it is a young inexperienced O-Line just means that Germer hasn't been recruiting that position consistently either under Stitt or under Hauck.
Recruiting and coaching at the level that we should expect is hard. But every other position coach has done it better than Germer.
I am tired of what you think is good. I want great. Year after year. I don't believe that Germer is the man to deliver that.
