2019 Griz Football Recruiting 25 Signed, 9 Transfers & 4 Walk-ons

"Ryder is an outstanding young man from eastern Montana. He has a fantastic academic record and was an NAIA All-American on the field," said Hauck. "We're excited to have him as part of the team this fall."

Seeking a new challenge and a personal affirmation of his abilities, Rice now crosses the Continental Divide to Missoula this season looking to earn playing time in his favorite FCS venue, Washington-Grizzly Stadium.

"I just want to prove to myself that I can play at this level. Even though I'm light for my position, it's just a personal thing more than anything," said Rice.

Since arriving in the Garden City in late May, Rice has had a sneak-peak of his new home stadium, putting himself through individual workouts and joining the Grizzlies for player-run practices in preparation for upcoming fall camp.

"Every day, just walking to practice out that tunnel and walking in that huge stadium is surreal. I can't wait for the first day, it's going to be such a great experience and so different than Rocky," added Rice. "It's going to be powerful."

Tipping the scales at 335 pounds and possessing the speed to run track in high school, Mallory will compete for a starting job at Montana following an all-conference sophomore season.

"Moses is a great young man who will be a terrific addition for us late in the year," said Hauck. "He will add a needed veteran to a young offensive line group."

After earning a starting spot as a true freshman at Dixie State before suffering an injury, Mallory helped Eastern Arizona to a pair of bowl games as an all-conference guard.

That experience led to an offer to play at West Virginia in 2019. But when that plan changed due to a Mountaineer coaching change, Mallory chose Montana over offers from Jacksonville State, North Alabama, Weber State and more, after a recent campus visit.

Mallory says it was the family atmosphere that made him choose to be a Grizzly.

"My visit was great. The coaches made me and my family feel at home. My mom really liked the place. She was getting emotional talking about it, and seeing me in a home where she knows I'm going to get taken care of and where she'll love to come see me play football. That's what made me commit," said Mallory.

"Being close to family, and having a family environment, that's what it's about."

Wonder what the hold up is on Raeshawn Roland, they haven’t announced him yet but he already knows what number he will be. Also no announcement on the 2 Hawaii kids and Dewalt from Sentinel I’m guessing because they are preferred walkons 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hopefully he didn’t get his hopes up about 22. (Terry Dillon, cough, cough).

I see that Jamyn Patu who chose Washington over us is looking to transfer I wonder if we would still be interested?

We are at about 109 players including incoming freshman currently and that does not include these recent walk-ons of Fitiausi-Fung, Hee, and DeWalt. I think only 105 can go to camp. Some of the walk-ons won't go to camp but will report when school starts when the roster has no limit. Point being I think Mallory, Rice and eventually Roland are the last additions. You don't usually get this many late additions that we did get.

I suppose Patu could be possible since he has now entered the portal but I am not sure we have roster limit or scholarships at this point in the year.

I cant wait to see the Fall roster come out, will any of these new recruits take a Greyshirt like Grossman and Hill did? who has left the team? I can guarantee you that more guys have left that we don't know about yet.

Very true. I will certainly be curious about the final roster.

TO ADD: I believe Keelan White committed to the Griz in June. It has been very under wraps. He is a talented WR from BC in Canada. I like his film but not sure of the talent level. My proof is this:
-Pease visited officially him last December. https://twitter.com/K_Whitey_12/status/1075629516117094400

-Manke, director of player personnel just started following him. This has been the closest give away to when we adding a player or there is serious interest.

-Jace DeWalt just started following him.

-Then finally these article or site seems to confirm it. https://www.fieldlevel.com/app/commitments/keelan.white/football

I had no idea about him, these Canadian recruits are very mysterious we had a guy last year Dawson Marchant a CB from British Columbia. He showed up to camp and was enrolled in school but when I asked people about him no one had a clue who he was. He ended up transferring to University Of British Columbia.

I was told by someone (not at UM) that Jamyn Patu wasn't offered enough $ by the Griz so chose to walk on at UW. Not sure the money would be any different, if not less at this point. I think he would be a good one, just not sure could work out so late with roster/scholarship money mostly if not fully used.

Also another player I believe is on the team is Jacob Harrod a ATH from Lake Havasu Arizona.

This same Keelan White signed with University Of British Columbia in 2018.

Yep he did. Pretty typical for players in Canada to do that because those schools are not NCAA so they are not bound to their LOI similar to NAIA and if an American school shows interest later they can always go that route. Eastern and Central Washington also had some interest in him.

I'm thinking the final fall roster will be much different than now.....Hauck has added and recruited his players that he feels he needs to win.....everyone will have to compete for the team and the scholarship money that is available....some will find it necessary to move on.....it is that way most years....will be some surprises i would imagine.

As a Rocky alum, I was somewhat shocked to see Ryder move over to the Griz. I'm thinking you guys got a steal here. The kid is the real thing and it will be great to see how his play will transfer over from Rocky. I'm thinking you all will be pleasantly surprised with him.

I'm thinking you're right!! Very fortunate to have him, many thought he was headed East.
