Tired of staff talk but very ready for football season :thumb:

Thinking back to some of the players that played under Hauck in his first stint got me thinking of who on the roster could be the next great one or ones under this staff.
Gresch could be as good or better then any of BH's previous QB's
I think some of the o-lineman will also be considered great before they are done and could get a shot at the next level?
Who are some players you see that will excel under Hauck and staff?

Offensively.....
- Colin Bingham will excel in a huge way at TE. He’s made for that position, I expect he’ll be an all-BSC TE this season.
- Alijah Lee will be leaned on a lot. I like his combination of power and explosiveness at the LOS.

Defensively....
- I think Jesse Sims (and the whole DL for that matter) will benefit from a more experienced coach pushing them. Sims is already a stud, I expect he’ll make bigger waves this season.
- Dareon Nash. This might be more of a hopeful expectation, but Bobby seems to know how to develop corners, and I think Nash has more raw ability than anybody we’ve had since Tru. If Nash fits in well with the new culture, some good coaching will turn him into a monster at CB.

I hope Baers is better than advertised, and particularly as a LB coach. We’ve got a ton of talent at LB coming up. I like Sacks, Schillinger, and the reports about the CB coach sound promising. LB is the WD-40 that keeps the defense moving, I hope that guys like Matthews, Lewis, Le Texier, Welnel, and Key are well-groomed and ready to take over.

JLM will be an all american returner

This....he could end up have 5-6 total special teams TDs with Haucks expertise. God I'm looking forward to having a fundamentally sound..detail oriented program again.

I think it's going to be a battle between Gresch and Bobby's/Rosey's QB from UNLV,

I think that if the 2018 O-line gets locked in we could see a long stretch of dominant OL play for years to come. We've got 1 junior and the rest are sophomores and freshman. If they lock in...wow. (Equally if not... lookout).

I'm interested to see how things shake out at RB. Lee and Calhoun both return but were in somewhat different roles last season. Hauck likes a feature-back but it would seem to me he'd want to use both again as well. Can Calhoun stay healthy? Can Lee handle an increased amount of carries?

Defensively I think our fairly skilled and physical front 7 will really adapt well. Yeah we're filling some gaps left by starters but the backups played a ton. I think that group will be very impressive.

I imagine we'll need at least 4 quality running backs, so in addition to Jeremy Calhoun and Alijah Lee, there will be some battles between Moses, McCombs, Moody, Green and probably others, for playing time.

I think the O-line could take a year or two to come into their own but there are some highly touted, seemingly highly motivated, holy cow huge, boys in that group. Jackson, and maybe Torres, playing next to Jackson, are my outside votes to go to the "Dance". They both seem very motivated to me.

Toure and Akem are still on my "must watch" list. Toure has the best "reel" I've seen in..... forever, and Akem has NFL WR size (6'4") and speed, if he can just learn to catch the ball. Nagler will surprise people, I hope, in a year or two. JLM of course, could kill with Hauck's ST but too small for the NFL.

Buss could "dance" because of his speed, and Le Texier is gonna shine if he recovers well from his injury. My defensive up and comer "you heard it here first" is........ Gavin Crow, DB 6'1" 200# and a student of martial arts.

I agree on the OL. Good experience and depth on the interior, but depth at tackle is a possible concern. Maybe the position in most need of some transfer help.

National Championship game could be coined the game of freshmen. Hopefully this trend trickles down a bit for the Griz this year. With the red shirt o-linemen and some impressive true freshman linemen who have committed it would seem the talent for a good offensive line is on the roster this year and I would expect results this year.
Griz need another Buss to emerge. LB speed, there are a lot of DE sized players on Defense, who are the 200-220 Lb tackling machines that are good in coverage? Buss is that guy, however there needs to be a young LB on the roster to step up.

While anything could happen if you promote O-line players based on last year's depth it would look like this:

T: Thayne Jackson (6-5, 296 Soph) / Brandon Scott (6-7, 295 Soph)
G: Angel Villanueva (6-5, 324, Jr) / Brandon Scott (6-7, 295 Soph)
C: Cody Meyer (6-3, 293 Jr) / Dylan Eickmeyer (6-4, 292 Soph)
G: Dallas Hart (6-5, 315 Jr) / Ashton Torres (6-4, 292 Soph)
T: Conlan Beaver (6-5, 293 Soph)

(Torres and Scott both listed as backups to Villanueva so I moved one over. I also found a fall camp depth that listed Scott as an alternate at guard as well.

Not listed in that depth but on roster:

Colton Keintz (6-8, 275 RS frosh)
Skyler Martin (6-5, 255 RS frosh) - was a 2 star recruit
Payton Stoner (6-6, 282 RS frosh) - was a 2 star recruit

Will be here in the fall:

Conor Quick (6-3, 275 true frosh)
Sean Anderson (6-7, 305 true frosh) - 2 star recruit
Tyler Ganoung (6-5, 318 true frosh) - 2 star recruit

-------------

I'm going to bet that the three guys coming off their RS will be more in shape to compete for depth spots. They obviously didn't make any 2017 roster spot since they were all redshirting.

-----------

With this OL:

- The size is there
- The height is there
- The time with Germer and Nicholson is there
- They're the right guys for what Bobby wants to do
- Practically any meaningful game time experience isn't there. ST duty only for most except Angel

There's a lot of signs that suggest they could be a good group, but we'll have to see.

BTW - based on what I've seen in the past, how he plays and how he practices, I think Cody Meyer is going to do big things

RB will definitely be a battle. Lee seems to be the more hard nosed runner that I think Bobby likes so I wouldn’t be surprised if Calhoun loses the starting job. I don’t remember if Bobby ever had a good 1-2 punch in his arsenal before either though. Green, Lex, and Chase were all spread out.

Actually ‘04 he had Green and Lex.

He did mostly have 1 feature guy but would rotate a few backs. Each year there would be a guy that would share some touches.

Lee definitely end carries with more authority at times, but Calhoun's vision is way better. I don't think it's close.
