As a long time Cal Poly fan I think 2017 was an exception, not the rule. A lot went wrong last season. To start we had a new OC and a new QB. The OC struggled early and so did the QB. Both were starting to find their stride and Jenkins gets injured. He is replaced with a walk on Rfr. We also were hit with a ton of injuries including All-American FB Joe Protheroe.
This season the OC has 11 games under his belt and Protheroe and Jenkins return and we built some depth we all the young players that played due to injuries. We also brought in 7 JC players (including JC All-State and All-American OL Junior Taifane) and two transfers to help with depth. We will be a better team in 2018 and may surprise some people.
Since joining the Big Sky we have gone 7-1, 5-3, 5-3, 3-5, and 5-3 before going 1-7 last season. Like I said I feel it is the exception. I expect Cal Poly to be in the thick of thing in the Big Sky in 2018.
