2015 Two Deep (Never too Soon)

I think Weyer will be Center as well. He is going to be a great one. Luke will battle it out for a guard spot. CL will be battling for a tackle spot--he did some excellent run blocking against San Diego and showed some DOLA. No one will touch Schmaing's tackle spot if he is healthy. DL will be just fine next year and a strength of the team! Crittenden and Holmes played to a high, high leval yesterday. Kidder and Peevey will have the interior taken care of.

Question, what area will be the hardest to replace from this year? In my mind, without a doubt, D-line will be the biggest loss.

QB

I understand that QB is the most important position on the field and that JJ will be tough to replace, but I think we have a lot of talent at QB. We actually have too many QBs on the roster all of which have great potential. My concern is that we are losing the best pass rusher the Griz have ever had and one of the best interior linemen as well. The Griz lived by their defense this year, not their offense. And we are losing two of the most important pieces of the D.

Whatever happened to Taylor Walcott? I know he was out this year, has he left the team as well?

No, just needed this season to get healthy. He'll be back.

Didn't he have all of last season to get healthy as well?

I for one am not worried about QB. JJ was great, no doubt. I think Chalich will be even better. Without him, I would be very concerned. I hope we've got some solid safety to step up.

Looks like Taylor Walcott's career is over. He had some additional surgery just before Thanksgiving. The prognosis is not encouraging.

That is disappointing. Feel bad for him!

What about the other transfer Qb?

The oline could go a lot of different ways. Competition will be fierce this spring. I think the following is possible:
LT - Schmaing/Thiebes
LG - Todd/Luke
C - Weyer/Luke
RG - Dietrich/Kelly
RT - Reese/LaRowe

This should be a very solid, experienced group. The only variable will be how much change in schemes will happen with a different coaching staff.

I agree on Schmaing, Reese, Weyer, Dietrich as having a leg up as of right now on starting next year. Mick Delaney, on the Grizzly Sports Report of the season, mentioned these 4 players as standouts next season. He said he believes Reese will be as good as there is (eventually), although he played very light as a true freshman, in the high 250s to low 260s, at 6'7". He said Weyer was a tough kid.

I'm extremely high on the OL verbals, although I hope we are good enough with what we have already so that the verbals can red-shirt for long-term success of the program.

1) I think RB goes Logwood, Nguyen, Counts, Favors
2) if that rumored CB from Wazzu is legit i think he starts over Nelson
3) not sure if a FB will be used next year
4) cody baker will end up on the 2-deep at d end

I especially agree with 2 and 4.

If Ngeyun is anything but our 3rd back we are in trouble and seriously lacking talent.

Really? Guess I'm glad you're not setting the roster.

Nguyen is a good back, his 8.0 ypg average was the best on the team. With just 3 more carries than Logwood he had double the yards. He also finished as the 2nd best punt returner in the Big Sky, statistically.

BOOM...

Knowledge dropped on that head. :thumb:

Agree with Brint, John Ngyuen will be a reall good RB the next two years, just as PN was his junior and senior seasons. I don't mind saying he scares me as a punt returner, but when he does it RIGHT, he is very dangerous.

Reese weighed 253 as of about 6 weeks ago. Thiebes will be much heavier by spring, and I assume could get back into the mix. Was injured most of the season.
