2015 Griz Football Recruiting- 4 Transfers/ 17 Verbals/ 4 WO's

No need to fret about losing these players - the winnowing process works as it should. We keep the verbals that truly were committed to the GRIZ program and the rest move on to what in their minds is a more prestigious opportunity. The slots freed up can be used for the last minute quality players who wait too long and suddenly their door to the promised land is slammed shut. Their spot is gone. If I remember right Trumaine was one who fell in our lap at the last second and he is now a starting cornerback in the NFL! Or, we keep available scholarships for later when quality players become disenchanted with their dream team/school/location for any of a myriad of reasons. It all works out for the best - you can bet your ass there is a Plan B! Relax, GRIZ fans, we're in good hands!!

This very true... Every year the Griz add 2 or 3 names late that never were talked about. Its always the best part of Signing day.

Tyler Martin?

There are exceptions, of course, but don't plan on too many 3 star recruits signing at UM until we are members of a FBS conference. Also, don't be so shocked when a recruit decommits as it is part of the process.

Tyler Martin?
5'9" QB/P. I would guess he's not our recruit cus he's from Maryland and that's kinda out of our recruiting area unless he knows Keron Desheilds.

We will be landing more 2-3 star recruits and I think we'll even add a 4 star--if you're into stars--in the years ahead.

Why?

We will have our 4 scholarships back starting in 2017, the new Washington Champion's Center will also have been built by then, and Coach Stitt will have a track record by then at UM. And some kids will continue to want to play at the top of FCS as opposed to the bottom of FBS, especially a school with excellent facilities not to mention academics.

IF Kamron Johnson remains with us come next Wed. and I think he will, we will have not only beat the UNLV's, Nevada's and Wyoming's of the mid-lower level FBS for him, but also Big 10 Powerhouse Wisconsin, a perennially ranked Top 25 FBS school !!!

Do you magic Coaches! We really want Mau Ena!

Among many things the NC2A needs to change is the recruiting process top to bottom. I like an idea that Bo Pelini made known while still @ Nebraska.
Slow down the recruiting process: Eliminate national signing day altogether and put greater accountability behind scholarship offer. Pelini thinks high school players should be able to sign with teams as soon as they receive scholarship offers. If coaches choose to offer scholarships to freshmen and sophomores -- an increasingly common tactic -- they have to be prepared for those players to sign on for the distant future."If somebody has offered a kid, let him sign, it's over," Pelini told ESPN.com on Wednesday. "That will stop some of the things that are happening -- people just throwing out offers, some of them with really no intention of taking a kid."

In truth, the recruiting process sees three types of kids The first one is the 17-18 year old who truly doesn't have a clue what they want to do, but are forced to make verbal (promise ring) indications to remain relevant for something down the road. The second is the kid who is leveraging the hell out the process waiting to see what turns up. He's being advised by someone who "knows" how this game is played. The third is the actual commit, e.g., Willy Pflug so far, who has signed himself up because he knows what he wants. If they make this process one where the accountability rests on the kid and his advisors, it will be easier for actual coaches (and couch coaches like me), to know what they have, what they need and how to play the appropriate recruiting cards. Not much chance it will change anytime soon, witness the normal glacial NC2A change process as well as the fact that this whole thing is moving closer to something on a par with the NFL draft. One can hope.

I am curious to see how moving the initial signing day into December will play out.

Billingsgriz....you are in dreamland. 4star recruits! I'm sure we will be getting a few 5 star recruits as well as they will be excited to compete in the Big Sky Conference. They will probably de-commit from Alabama. After all, playing Northern Colorado rather than Auburn is much more exciting.

Not saying we will ever get a 4-star recruit out of high school, but I can think of at least one instance where we snagged a 5-star transfer. JJ's former Sheldon High teammate, TE Curtis White, left Oregon after injuries and tried to make a go of it here in 2013, but it didn't work out.

MSU got a 4 star DE last year but couldn't keep his grades up to stay on the team. Van was a 4 star drop down. I'm sure with a little research some of our other transfers were probably high. I know it's not the same thing but close. Probably more points to the questioning of the legitimacy of the whole star rating system.

Whatever SpankIt. We are getting 4stars because of our schedule ability to include the likes of
Oklahoma Panhandle State University
That name deserves its own line....

I agree regarding rb. So far, not too strong.

Back up the thread a bit and you've got a three star - Kamron Johnson who looks like a great get & in town this weekend. The meat of this offense is in the passing components so that's why Stitt is putting so much emphasis on it.
Really? Why has Stitt had a 1000 yard rusher nearly every year? One dimensionality would doom his offense.

Getting Johnson would be great; it isn't done yet and if we lose him, we are not only thin; we have no one that has shown star potential.

Well we just graduated our two star running backs for the last two years. They have gotten the majority of the snaps. Now it's time for someone to step up. New era. I like Counts and Nguygen sharing reps if they can stay healthy. I don't like Nguyen returning punts, but he has shown himself to be a skilled running back. The year Chase Reynolds became a "star," starting with Cal Poly, was a classic example of a player stepping up in a game, seizing the opportunity, and never looking back.
