According to Jayson Williams' instagram, he did NOT commit to Montana while here, even tho he included a photo of him in a #4 Griz jersey. That was less than 30 minutes ago...

Gut feeling he will be signing West of us. Hope I'm wrong!!
Pretty sure he's going to ewu. He posted a photo in an eagle jersey on his visit there too. Confuses me why they post photos like that when you're undecided. I'd be embarrassed to be caught in a cat or eagle jersey.

Couldn't find where this had been posted before...

With all due respect, no way 9 in 10 is correct--maybe 5 out of 10. Any kid with half a brain and a smart phone can check to see how well the Idaho's, New Mexico's, and UNLV's have been doing and compare that to our recent history.

If a kid is offered by a good 1A, FBS program, I would agree with your 9 out of 10 times figure. But we have and will continue to successfully compete for kids being recruited by mid-lower level FBS.

We have better facilities that are being continually upgraded--new student-athlete academic center and soon the new Champion's Center and a better stadium, we play football in Dec., and as Alabama noted, we have more kids in The NFL than the Idaho's, New Mexico's and UNLV's of college football.

Yep. 5, maybe 6 of 10. At worst...

I don't think it is that simple. Unless a kid is from Montana or possibly N. Idaho or E. Washington, I would be pretty certain that most of them would take a lower level FBS offer over a FCS offer. Most kids that don't have a tie to the FCS school will almost always consider the Idaho and New Mexico offers as better, a bigger deal.

My take, Montana kid would take a Montana or Montana St offer over almost all lower FBS offers. A kid from W. Washington, Oregon, S. Idaho will almost always take the lower level FBS offer over a FCS offer.

per twitter, Cody Baker has committed to New Mexico...bummer

Statements like these are why people think Griz fans are arrogant bitches...

I'll never understand it. I mean, I'd understand ANY other school outside of UNM, NMSU or Idaho. Mediocrity for so long it's a CERTAINTY they'll suck. Honestly, who would want to play for that?

Yeah, it boggles my mind as well...must have been giving out hookers and blow...otherwise it just wouldn't make sense.

Or realists. You know, whatever.

Good for Baker...next man up.

My point is, whether you think Idaho and New Mexico are shitholes or not, if a kid picks those instead of Montana...stay classy...don't act like a douche

grizindabox makes a good point. Montana has had a lot of success over the years, so my hat is off to you. I can't imagine going to Eastern Washington and a town of 10,000, where the "fun" town of Spokane is an hour or more drive, but for some young men it is a great fit. Same for Northern Arizona.

Everyone has a different focus, sometimes smaller, sometimes bigger. UC Davis is new to DI football but has had success in past years, and has great academics. They have Daniel Fells (TE) and Colton Schmidt (punter) currently in the NFL, and previously had several quarterbacks make the pros including Ken O'Brien (25,000 passing yards with the New York Jets) and Rolf Benirschke (San Diego Chargers). Current Coach Ron Gould refers to the NFL meaning "Not For Long". That is where Davis student-athletes really excel when they contribute back to the community as teachers, business people, doctors and scientists.

Go Grizzlies, and go Aggies.

I do not agree at all with your analysis at all-- most kids in Southern Idaho, say Boise, for example, know The University of Idaho has suffered from a lack of success, to put it diplomatically, on the football field for quite some time.

If you meant 20-30 years ago before the advent of the smart phone, tablets, widespread use of the internet, I would agree with you. But with the now widespread availability of information,
most kids can study a school and their program in-depth from their i Phone or Droid.

And when they do, about half of them are going to pick us over the perennial 1A doormat. Going 1-11, 2-10, 3-9 just isn't a whole lot of fun, at least for some kids, even if the punching bag is your home state school and/or close to where you live !!!

We can just agree to disagree then. Most kids that do not grow up being a fan of the local FCS school will pick the lower level FBS school almost all the time. As Griz fan's and FCS fan's, most don't want to believe it, but FCS is a second class citizen to most.

I would even go as far to say that more kids from N. Idaho and E. Washington would choose an offer from Idaho over Montana.

The perception of FBS/FCS is a big deal...more so than success on the field, to most high school aged kids.

Transfer rules also play a part as kids can always use FCS as a fall back option.

Yes. It's completely stupid, but simply true.

Yes, we will have to agree to disagree.

I don't have any data to back up my opinion, nor do you with yours, but anecdotally, we wouldn't have so many 2-3 star kids in this class if you were correct.

The perception of 1-11 Idaho even in Idaho is that the Vandals are not very good, or in the vernacular, "The Vandals suck !!!"

But the Griz could not get the kid out of high school. The FBS offer from lowly Idaho was more enticing than the offer from UM.

Amen, reinell !!!

And I didn't say we would get all, 100% of kids. I said @ 50%.

Yeah, Chalich went to Idaho out of high school--they had recently won The Humanitarian Bowl under Coach Akey and Chalich is from Coeur d' Alene. And then Idaho returned to the cellar, Coach Akey got fired in 2012, and after getting pummeled for two years, Chalich is a GRIZ.

Some GRIZ recruits learn more quickly than others !!!

Star ratings mean nothing when broaching the topic of FBS/FCS...there are 2 and 3 star kids that don't have any FBS offers.

Of course there are tons of 2-3 star kids with no FBS offers, UM is not worthy, the grass is always greener, and the glass is always half empty !!!

You do realize the Chalich did not transfer because the Griz win more games...

Let me save you some time.

You are debating with someone more unbiased, objective and impartial than you, and has never been wrong.

My bad Raidah...every single kid should go to Montana to play football...there is not a single good reason any smart kid would do differently...all those kids going to FBS schools are foolish idiots...I wonder how Idaho even fields a team, you know, since FCS is and should be king with most 18 year old high school kids that don't even know you have to click the FCS (Division 1-AA) link to even see what teams are actually in FCS from the ESPN page
