2014 Defensive Wish List

Well-known member
1) Corners that play aggressively without fear of failure (it's inevitable as a CB)
2) LBs that can cover in the passing game OR Nickel & Dime DB sets (unlike last year)
3) Speed, Speed & More Speed off the edge & from the LBs to help DBs better pass defense
 
Corners that do not play off the ball 10 yards at LOS.
Corner and safety blitzes.
Players that show the heart of Grizzlies, playing to the whistle aggressively, tackling when in one-on-one situations, and exuding leadership to their younger teammates, preparing them for their time on the field.

One would think that Gamboa should help with #3. He has the speed to cover. In his HS game film, the coaches appeared to use him a lot blitzing off the edge from the OLB position. He looked pretty effective.

+1000---Where are the Keith Thompson's when you need them? I can't remember one single flag last year for unneccessary roughness on the defense for hitting a person too hard. Time to be the bad boyz on the block. Make the other team offense fear your presence on the field. Make them cringe when they get tackled...This is what will make a champion! Arm tackles, and simply missing altogether like the past two years, is no longer accepted!
 
Where are the Keith Thompson's when you need them?

The hits against Matt Cline and the big TE from SDSU in the play-off game are legendary!!! I thought Cline might be dead at first and the kid from SDSU was 80lbs heavier! It would be nice to see some of our DB's light some guys up, if we are going to play off of receivers then we should make sure we arrive with some venom.
 
Why do you guys think our defense is going to be any better this year with the same coaches putting these players on their heals and playing it safe?

Yo do realize this is all about scheme than it is players making plays right?

We couldnt dominate Hellgate with our scheme, in fact they might finally win a game.

I have been complaining about our schemes the last 2 years as well. He is right. Our pass coverage schemes need a lot of improvement.
 
I am certain this Defense will be very good and that the D Lines dominance of the line will allow the LB's to do their jobs and mature over the season. The DB's will be much better than last year and this D will shut teams down. The fact that our O will control the game will make for a well rested D. We are in for a great season of football!
