2012 Prediction

i can fully accept optimus prime and other Cats' fans making fun of the Griz for coming up short in national championship games. that IS one of the few things during the Griz' run that does suck and is open to mockery from our rival. having said that, those same cat fans that mock it, do so in a tone in which it sounds like they are glad it hasn't happened to their team. like they'd rather not get there if they are gonna lose the chipper. and any fan of any school that says that is either a liar or a complete douche. true cat fans would have LOVED every single one of the trips to chatty no matter the outcome. i've went three times and am 1-2 and while the two times i've seen the griz lose there, i don't think i've ever felt so much pride for 48 straight hours while i was there. EVERY time the griz have went to the chipper has been a dream come true and there's NOTHING like it.

as for my 2012 prediction. i'll go 8-3 with three road losses

Griz win a berth in the National Championship in January 2013....but none of us see it, as the world ended in December 2012.

My guess is we start slow and finish strong. I have major concernes about our CBs, OL, and DL. We need some guys to step up and fill some pretty large shoes. I like the talent we have, but it might take some time to develop. Hopefully the guys use all this adversity to come together and prove all the naysayers wrong. We need some leaders to emerge and set an example. Sounds like that this is happening. I like the new coordinators and think they will develop this talent into a dangerous team come playoff time.

My guess is 8-3 with a deeper than expected playoff run after a strong finish.

New first year interim head coach, new O and D Coordinators, must replace 9 starters on defense including two all-Americans, replace both tackles on offense, replace virtually the entire D line, controversy surrounding the program and specifically the QB.............I say you guys are crazy to expect this team to be as good as last year. un realistic expectations.

That said, I think this team goes 8-3 in the regular season with a blowout win vs the Cats in Missoula, adding to the list of big games that Denarius McGhee and Rob Ash simply can't win. Playoffs all depends on our matchups. This team has talent and potential and will play with an edge so I see us getting in the playoffs again despite all the losses on both sides and in the coaches booth.
I think (and hope) we're just reloading... we WILL be better at both tackle spots and I see better quickness at the G-C-G positions. An aggressive D-Coodinator and an experienced play caller in the booth are both pluses in my book. Our offense was hit-and-miss, but our short-yardage and goalline packages really need work. We'll need tall wide receivers for the jump balls so I see Saylor getting plenty of playing time. Just looking at the depth charts, I'd guess we see more 3-4 defense too. Just a hunch. We're loaded at LB with speed on the edges to blitz. Anyway... I'll go 10-1 with App. St. MAYBE being the L.

There is no double standard you dumb pussy. There are two seperate standards. Our standard is high, yours is low. You are not at our level as evidenced by the streak, the overall record, the 2011 brawl and the MSU vs. SHSU and UM vs. SHSU games. When your team got down big, they quit. When our team got down big, they kept fighting until the end and almost pulled it off.

WaGriz is right, you've "won" exactly 2 "big" games under Ash: 2010 UM and 2011 NH. Both were pure luck. After watching Ash's NH-post-game, i would be embarrassed to be a cat fan. He essentially said that when he was waiting for them to kick the PAT he was praying they'd miss it. The only reason a coach would say that is because he knew there was no other way they'd win.

Easy there tiger. OP, iltc, and wbtfg are some Cat posters that bring some good discussion to the boards. Let's not discourage them. :twocents:

i know but they have to be put in their place occasionally when they make absurd statements.

btw, do you believe that by informing a crackhead he's on crack it will make him quit his addiction?

here, let me show you what i'm trying to say:

hey crackhead,,,,,,,you're on crack...................[oh, thanks i'll stop now]

hey cat fan,,,,,,,,,,you're dumb as fu(k..............[oh, thanks i'll stop posting now]

I see a lot of people here predicting the App State game as a loss....prior to the coach/AD upheaval did ya'll feel the same way? Because App State post-Edwards isn't your father's App State. Quick is gone, their new all-world QB got moved to corner/WR (and is now gone), and they've had coaching staff turnover as well...

These quotes are from an article posted January 19th, 2012:

Appalachian State's coaching staff, particularly on offense, has gone through several changes this winter. Linebackers coach Mark Speir (who also happened to be App's Recruiting Coordinator) was hired to be the head coach at Western Carolina. He took three assistants — receivers coach Trey Elder, quarterbacks coach Brad Glenn and tight ends coach John Holt — with him.

Appalachian State's football program announced that offensive line coach Bob McClain and running backs coach Chris Moore have left the coaching staff, effective Thursday.

They have a new OC as well, and had a graduating class of 23 seniors, including Quick, Pressley and Cadet. They have only ONE QB on the team who's thrown a regular season pass (Jackson) and has only 7 starts under his belt. They lose 2 of their top 3 receiving threats and their top RB (Cadet). Outside of Jackson, they have exactly ONE guy who got handed the ball more than 11 times. So, while we have some defensive holes to fill, they have had a LOT of upheaval on the offensive side of the ball, which negates a lot of that perceived advantage.

Granted, the game IS in Boone...but personally, I like our chances. If there was ever a time to play they THERE, this is it. :thumb:

Alot going on over in Missoula, but they always find a way to turn their ship in the right direction. I see them losing a few games along the way this year. Will have at most two losses on their resume going into the brawl of the wild. (this is if Johnson stays, thought he really did a great job at the end of last season and would be a great asset if he returns. Not familiar with N. Montana but hear he has upside.)

Agree with all of the above. Except the 8-3 will be two road losses and one at home ;)

If everyone stays and no rash of major injuries, I think we will be decent by Griz standards, outstanding by most other standards.

7-4 or 8-3, worse if JJ is gone.

Really? I hope you're putting the eagles in the win column for Montana.

@EWU, @AppState, @Weber, MSU are the games I could easily see the Griz losing. Perhaps SUU if they can get their shit together because Sorensen is one hell of a QB.

Are you denying that player-for-player, the University of Montana shouldn't field more talent than any other school in the Big Sky Conference?? The offense goes as the O-LINE goes. We had a left tackle who lived off his reputation as an all-conference guard the past two seasons and killed us his junior year (just watch the LAST two plays in the loss to the Bobcats), and blocked in a phone booth for two seconds his senior year. Roper takes a lot of shit from you yaks, but if I was getting hammered on a regular basis by D-ends and blitz's (and our starting QB was sitting on the sideline for the season because of a whiffed block), I'd be a little surly too. The O-line came together against Weber with Lapan at tackle, stunk against W. Oregon, but lit it up in Bozeman and against Northern Iowa, then laid an egg when Sam Houston abused them. If this bunch of young men can be molded into an attacking unit and not a bunch of belly bumpers, I think we'll be tough to beat. No koolaid needed here Lent.
