2012 is the best schedule the last 25 years

If we strongly believe that we should never, ever schedule a DII team, then we should expect that an FBS team should never, ever schedule us. That's a two-way street, boys.
And one with which I totally agree. I will ALWAYS push for an all-FCS schedule.

Agree, but easier said than done. Lack of western FCS teams and the want/need to have 2 home non-conference games makes it REALLY difficult!

Oh, Kodiak, I know what you mean. But Southland and Missouri Valley conferences really aren't much further away than the California teams -- and, with home-and-away agreements, the road runs both ways.

Trust me, FBS fans view scheduling us the same way some of our fans view scheduling DII teams. And I don't really understand why, since we've lost to at least two DII teams in the last 10-11 years, and almost three.

Also, the talent gap between FCS/FBS isn't near as wide as the FCS/D2 gap.. unless the D2 is Central Washington/Grand Valley/Abilene Christian/etc.

I disagree. Compare our record against DII teams with our record against FBS teams.

We lost to NDS the year before they moved up, but what other DII team beat us?

I think he's thinking of MSU. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Southern Utah was a 1-AA Independant when they beat us (45-35) in 1998. Last time a Div II school won prior to the NDSU loss was probably 1985 when Don Read brought his Portland State (member of the WFC) team to Missoula and left a 21-16 victor. that same year they beat the Cats 46-28, which was the next game after their NC in 1984 - and their mighty tumble to 2-9 in 1985.

Note, that one year later Don Read is the head coach at Montana, and Pokey Allen is taking his place at PSU. I do not remember the hiring circumstances for Don Read, but you got to believe that win helped place his name in the hat for the head coaching job in 1986 for us.

Thanks for the information, ordigger. I was thinking Southern Utah was DII when they beat us. Anyway, in the last twenty years, we've beaten one FBS team (Oregon State in '96), and we've been beaten by one DII team (NDSU), and barely escaped against another - Central Washington. So I'm still not seeing that much difference between playing up and playing down in terms of the level of competition. Yes, I understand that beating a DII team doesn't count towards the hypothetical FCS playoff minimum D-I wins requirement.

While that is a good schedule, doesn't the lack of an FBS game make it an Ok schedule. For the ooc games, the one that gets fans excited is the play up games vs FBS. It seems like our fans will travel to FBS games at 2-3 times the rate as FCS games. Maybe App makes up for this, but dont the fans want an FBS?

The bison fans have been conditioned the last 5 years to expect an FBS game and our AD has been doing a good job of getting FBS games where we can compete vs getting blown out. Wyo, MN, IA St, KS have been landmark games. No FBS would seemingly be a big void. I would think that MT fans would be begging for an annual MW, Pac12, or WAC game, no?

In my case, the answer is a resounding "NO." I want an all-FCS schedule, nothing less, nothing more.

Same here. Unless that FBS game comes from the following list:

Idaho
Wyoming
Boise St
Nevada
Colorado State
Air Force
Washington State
Utah State

No ASU or U of A? Both schools schedule about two games down a season....it could happen? UM has a better chance of beating the Sundevils or Wildcats (if their current situations) than they do Boise State.

Purely from a selfish standpoint, I'd LOVE to see the Griz come down here and play ASU or UofA, then I could go to the game! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: And I agree, Boise is about the only game on that list that isn't winnable.

Herd....the answer is no. Most of the people posting on this board want the Griz to play only teams we should beat. Further, they will fight UM ever moving to a true Division1 conference.
