Vaughn Autry has recently been bumped up from an 88 to a 92 and is the #27 rated PG in the country
Kareem Jamar is at a 91 and rising and holds steady as the #32 rated SF
Billy Reader is rated a 78 and #225 PF
Michael Weisner has finally recieved a rating after being listed as a 40 for some time Weisner is rated a 77 and the #176 SF in the country

I understand ratings dont mean much.... but once you get up in the 90's on ESPN that is pretty legit. Autry is ranked above PG signees from New Mexico, Kansas State, Wisconsin ect.....Kareem Jamar is rated ahead of signees from Washington, Indiana, Wisconsin ect....I know its just on paper and we need to see what happens on the court....but what a great class..... MSU hasn't done to bad for itself either :thumb:

Gotta be pleased with what Tinks has been able to do recruiting wise. Cherry lived up to the hype, I'm sure Autry and Jamar will as well. We just need to put the ink to paper now.

Will Cherry was rated an 80 by ESPN and was the #117 ranked PG in the country as compared to Autry's 92 rating and #27 ranked PG in the country..... gives an idea of just how incredible this class is on paper. Cherry certainly worked out and he had a measly 80 rating ;)

I still think the most exciting part is that we're getting talented athletes right out of high school. We've always had to rely on the JC route for good guards in the past. That will go a long way in terms of player development, team chemistry, fan interest, and maybe even recruiting. Talented young players like to go play with other talented young players.

I was excited about this class before the updated ratings. Funny thing is, after watching Weisners video, I wondered how could he not be rated higher? He looked like a very fundamentally solid player, and very good scorer. I am glad he got some recogniton recently though.

I was and even more astounded at the recruits Tinkle and his staff have been landing. For a Big Sky program to land this caliber of HS recruits is astonishing. Somehow the GRIZ coaching staff is seeing potential when these players are Freshman or Sophomores, and get on these players early. They get close to the recruits, families, and coaches before the bigger schools do. By the time these kids are SR's they feel obligated to commit. I would love to know what questions our coaches ask these players and families to bait the hook? I would think some of their questions lead to finding out the level of loyalty and values within that recruit or family. I have a feeling loyalty and attitude are the biggest off the court attributes they dig for.

If those things are positive, I think the GRIZ pursue and encourage these kids relentlessly, and show more genuine interest than other programs do. I pray we continue recruiting kids like these, and we develop them. If Tinkle continues to grow as a coach, I really do want to one day know his tricks of the trade in recruiting. I would love to hear from former GRIZ or parents, what sold them on Montana and Tinkle. Honestly to God, what he is putting together is unprecedented at Montana and the Big Sky Conference. How long can he continue this?

Congrats coaches on doing what you are doing, keep it up! As for the new recruits, "Welcome to GRIZNATION!!!" We are all excited to support all you throughout your GRIZ years. Thanks for getting GRIZNATION excited about basketball again.

i no longer trust these ratings. i saw cherry last summer in an all-star game against several pac-ten recruits with gaudier resumes, and as i reported here, he was absolutely the best player on the floor. jordin mayes, the westchester point guard on his way to arizona, gets three stars to jamar's two, but i'd take jamar any day. and i'll bet you this year's bobcat class turns out to be every bit as good as ours, even though they don't rank as high as our recruits. anybody want to take me up on that? mslacat?

But those situations would support the theory that player ratings are heavily influenced by the prestige of the schools recruiting them. That doesn't really apply to the Griz's case. I don't think ESPN is saying "whoa Autry is being recruited by Montana, he's gotta be in the 90's"

Feel free to go to espn.com and compare our recruits to those for MWC program's. I have yet to check out every team. So far the only MWC program on par or ahead of ours for recruits is New Mexico. Beloved, hated, or overrated (depending on who is reading this) Gonzaga does not have anyone listed there (what is up with that?).

It would not surprise me if our class is one of the top 10 classes west of the mississippi, maybe even top 30 to 50 nationally. For those in a research mood please let us know. If I get the energy and time, I will update this, but that may take a while.

well, grizrule, if you truly believe that this class is this great, then we better hope it doesn't get wasted. If Tinkle has put this good of class together for the Griz, and he takes advantage, it could be the type of deal that allows this type of recruiting to keep on keepin on. Kinda the ole "if you build it, they will come" type deal.

Hopefully it works out two ways Stub... Getting a good rep and some national exposure like the Zag's comes along very rarely. Surprsingly, they've been able to sustain some continued success, "despite" being an eastern Washington, mid-sized city school. There might be more under the rug I don't know about, I'm sure the entire roster aren't all Catholics, right? But when you say, "if you build it, they will come", lets hope the its with recruits AND Griz loyalists. The 'House rocked when MRR and the boys were knocking heads. I love to see it that way again. Which I'm sure the powers-that-be would too... $$$$!
