2007/08 season is over

for whatever reason, whether the sparseness of the population in the treasure state or the common difficulties often imposed by mother nature, it's true that montanans are a congenial bunch, happy to help others in need, eager to share a meal, a beer or a ride, and i've always wondered if this innate friendliness doesn't hurt us in basketball, if our kids aren't just too nice to really compete against inner city kids who now dominate the game, and for whom basketball is ego, status, power, "in your face disgrace" combat.

i've never met tinkle but i've seen him in pre-game situations with parents, recruits and coaches, and he seems like a genuinely nice guy, lacking the venom of a jud heathcote or even a larry krystkowiak, who played with a meanness and vengeance attested to by a friend of the family whose son competed against krysko for idaho. i can imagine that if tinks tried to come off as a tough guy, a lot of players would see right through it, where with heathcote and krysko, it was genuine, the venom real.

just my overall theory about a team that seems to play "lazy-dasically", lacks tenacity on the boards, can't put together two good halves, and makes a ton of mental mistakes.

i know this: if they were playing for a bobby knight or a bob huggins or a jud heathcote or even a john wooden, who had a legendary mean streak, they'd be scared straight or they'd be sitting at the end of the bench. in the end i guess basketball is just like politics: mean prevails. and i just wonder: is tinks mean enough?

in any case, we now have two years of evidence: something is missing. I'm just taking a stab at it.

I don't know tinkle either, I have met him superficially but I do remember him from his playing days. I don't think anybody would question his toughness personally. I realize I am only speculating but I think he is stubborn and gets mad at the players and doesn't let them play to their strengths. I think we should be driving the lane more and feeding the post less. If someone has a hot hand let them shoot.

The problem is we had only one guy who could occasionally beat a guy off the dribble and that is CET. He could do it against some of the lesser guards, but against the top guards, he couldn't do it consistently.

Baloney :jack:

Nice response backed up with tons of facts. I don't know what you are referring to as baloney. Could CET beat guys off the dribble consistently or not? Did we have other guards who could penetrate consistently? Are you referring to my respose to Indian outlaws or his original post. The problem with responding with one work and an emoticon is no one knows what you are saying. I was voicing my opinion the inability to get a lot of penetration by this team. What were you saying?

City is right, no meanness. But Wayne is learning, each loss stings, and Wayne is getting better. Next year (o.k., I am guilty of "next year") they should be better. I guess I'm not disappointed because I didn't expect too much out of these boys. Next year I do, let's see f I am disappointed in a year.

well now, if we just take a minute and look at the lighter and possibly brighter side of all this we don't have to be concerned abt another 50+ point thumping by PSU. :drinking: on to next season!

If Rundles thinks kicking balls and getting T'd up in back to back games is showing leadership, I hope he leaves, say tomorrow. Cam has had an attitude problem all year. He keeps saying he wants to lead, but leaders don't act like crybabies on and off the court. As for Graves, I don't believe Graves is D1 material. That frees up 2 schoolies and I know the Griz are on a 3 Star player right now.

you really don't know what your talking about. the only time cam ever lost it was in a game where the refs (who totally suck) messed with him over and over until anyone would lose it. he hasn't said two words to anyone about not being happy with what's going on with this team and has been nothing but supportive of his teammates. if other players would play with some heart this would have been a much better season. i think cam wanted to get this team winning but his unsteady game has plagued him all year also. cam played well in the beginning of the year, got hurt, and struggled to get back. many, so called fans on here think they know what they are talking about when they talk about players they don't even know. cams attitude has only been bad at himself and if he decides not to stay here it will be the griz's loss. he probably followed the coaches dirrection more than anyone and maybe that effected his game, who knows . I do believe this coaching staff robbed graves and treated matt badly along with dave. i'm surprised these guys don't have attitude problems but for the most part they don't.(on or off the court)

Oh i see, if the refs suck, that justifies Cam playing soccer with the basketball to demonstrate his awesome leadership skills eh? Bravo.

do you think it's fair that a dozen players and thousands of fans have to suffer while Wayne figures it out? Red Shirt Freshman are supposed to grow into their roles, not D-1 coaches. Time for a change. I've seen enough!

Coaching skills aren't inherited. They are like all other skills - developed. I will admit, some coaches start out better due to better instincts and a better aptitude for the game. However there is no substitute for experience. These past 2 years exposed Tinks inexperience and we were out-coached consistantly. Hopefully Tinks has learned alot these last 2 years and can learn fast the upcoming years. On the up side though, Tinks has proven himself a very good recruiter and getting good talent is a must if we want our program to improve. With the talent coming in I am looking forward to next year.

On the upside, the Griz aren't doing any worse than they were during the Kennedy era.

At least then you could look forward to some Vick Vent.

Zero accountability, the fool me twice syndrome, and lowered expectations.

All the traits I expect from the fanbase of the school leading the nation in number of student athletes going onto that most prestigous of all insitutions..... PRISON  .

Wet noodle lashings all around!

There you go, the almighty oz of egriz has spoken.

Don't worry. Don't have much to complain about now do I. The nightmare is over. And since our football team will be undefeated until the playoffs again I will be eerily quiet.

I agree with you here. I knew something was wrong the game Cam kicked the ball by the student section and was then T'd up. Leading up to that he was crying to the refs about every call, and seemed like he dazing off into the crowd looking for the hot chicks.

It's nice that he wanted to lead, but not everyone has those leadership qualities and Cam showed this season he is not up to the challenge. I think it is best that he and UM part ways, because it is evident that its not working. I hope he can find a suitable home.

Yes, and some of us worked, and smart, and were able to start sitting on our collective duffs early in life if we so choose. Good luck calving, I know that is no picnic, cows don't tend to accomodate any schedule but their own.
