5) Caleb Lyons is starting to remind me waaaaay to much of Chase Nacaratto. And that's not a good thing.

This guy has no business being on the field. I know it's partly because of the JLM injury, but there are other options.

+1

Especially when they don't have a clue what they are talking about and are wrong.

On what play did Nguyen get caught from behind by a d-tackle? I didn't see any play when he was in clear and got caught like that. His longest run was 12 yards.
Nguyen's 12 yard run was meaningless, the last play of the game against the prevent with a 2 score deficit. He had 13 carries for 29 yards when it mattered.

Was able to watch the game tonight, after being out of town watching the track meet between Texas Tech and Oklahoma this weekend....here's my takeaways:

1) Brady once again became "Road Brady"....virtually every SINGLE pass that was catchable was actually caught. Every other pass was 4-8 feet over the receiver's head....Brady missed multiple wide open receivers on plays that would have either scored or extended drives. Seems like once Brady gets hit 3-4 times he gets rattled, frustrated, happy feet and exacerbates a pre-existing problem with accuracy.
2) NAU's #44 is pretty f***[*] good. Really f***[*] good.
3) NAU's true freshman RB is the real deal. He's gonna cause nightmares for the next 3 years.
4) Why did it seem like 90% of Brady's targets were to Calhoun? Was he the only WR able to get open? Where the hell were Bingham, Horner, Homan, Hovey, etc., etc....I realize each caught a pass or two, but Jesus, it seemed like Calhoun's #/name was called about 20 times.
5) Caleb Lyons is starting to remind me waaaaay to much of Chase Nacaratto. And that's not a good thing.
6) When the Griz REALLY needed to get back in the game, NAU was able to flip the field and bury the Griz deep multiple times late in the game....back breaker.
7) NAU's public address announcer might be the most annoying I've ever heard.....that "thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiird down!!!!" Call makes me want to shoot him--repeatedly.
8) NAU's announcers....what can I say. If I hear "partner", "buddy" or "pal" or any other term of endearment between them again I may shoot MYSELF....Jesus what a strange vibe in that booth....
9) TWO more turnovers inside our own 30. BOTH resulting in TD's again. Ain't no WAY we're gonna win games against good teams shooting ourselves in the foot repeatedly like that. Same shit that cost us in Cal Poly.
10) The D. The D looked....."lost"? Confused? Out of sorts? Unprepared? It was weird, many times they were running around at the snap of the ball and weren't prepared (or didn't seem to be prepared) when NAU hiked the ball.
11) Did John Nguyen really get caught from behind by the f***[*] NOSE TACKLE????
12) The drop by Hovey early in the 4th and deep in our own territory was a killer. Absolute killer. Right in his hands, no excuse.
13) What. The. f***. Is the deal with our kick coverage? How can we NOT kick the ball into the end zone in NAU of all places? Seemed like they were starting every drive at the 50 or closer. Their guy kicked it regularly 8 yards deep....ours got to the 2-3 yard line.
14) NAU's camera work is absolutely atrocious. Half the plays were missed.
15) I realize this was JR's first game back, and for the most part he played well...but he needs to STFU and play....quit bitching about offensive PI. Butler is a stud....do your job.
16) Markel Sanders played a terrible game. Really bad...Got burned for the first two TD's...whiffed on a tackle late in the 4th that would have stopped NAU. It was like Nelson coming back made the Defense WORSE.
17) What we saw was what happens to our D when the pressure doesn't get there. With the DB's on an island, LOTS of passes are going to get completed against our D if the pressure doesn't EVER get there...and it never got there. NAU's O-line did the job and kept Kidder & Co. Off of Kemp....
18) Is JLM really THAT important to this team?
19) Does the O-Line run-block better for Calhoun? 8-) Converesely, there wasn't a single running play that started out E/W that was successful against NAU's D-line. Much more success hitting the line fast and hard.
20) If I hear "Gustafson's pass is overthrown..." One more time I think I'm gonna puke. So, so, SO tired of watching balls sail over receivers heads.

Bonus:

21) It always seems like there's a team or two that just "have our number". During the Lulay years it was MSU. During the Shoota years it was EWU. Lately it seems to be NAU (3 of the last 4) and CP (3 in a row).

Bonus #2:

22) There always seems to be ONE game a year where the Griz lay a complete egg. Let's hope this was it this year and they come back with their hair on fire Saturday in Cheney. Gotta get a win on the road to start building some road confidence.
You watched the same game as me; good post.

AZ, this was a good summary. I cannot disagree with anything you observed. Frustrating game for fans. I can only hope this lights their hair on fire for EWU. I wouldn't be surprised or shocked if it did. I was at the Cats game. EWU defense is very, very poor.

Due to traveling did not see the game, but after reading this I would have thought we lost by 30. With the D/O/ STs(others suggested) all having bad games against a good team on the road in a dome (no audible I assume), I would say we did pretty good to only lose by 11. The score is flip flopped on John Hoyt field.

So you're fooled by the two late scores to make the final "respectable"? Because it was 45-20 midway through the 4th.

Good point. Like I said did not see game nor read paper. Life is too busy.

Sorry. Not trying to be snarky. Assumed you'd "caught up" with the doings....

Part of the reason NAU had so many points was that Stitt realized in the 3d quarter that we had to be extra aggressive and go for it on 4th down in our own territory if we had any chance of catching up. The O didn't convert on those. NAU got one TD and kept UM pinned in their own territory. So, in my view, there's more to the story on UM being down 45-20.

During our snap each time too. EWU used to pull that shit against us.
I was wondering about that too. I would think that would be a BSC rule, if not an NCAA rule. Maybe Peter Christian does this to opposing teams in WA Griz, but I just haven't noticed?

I guess when your stadium is half full, you do anything you can to create some energy.

On what play did Nguyen get caught from behind by a d-tackle? I didn't see any play when he was in clear and got caught like that. His longest run was 12 yards. D-lineman dive and catch runners from behind in the box all the time, because they haven't had time to straighten out and accelerate to full speed.

He was caught on the outside corner by one of the biggest guys on NAU, I think it was number 56. Even the announcers expressed surprise.

I didn't think that was legal?

Its not..but a lot of places still do it..specifically in domes....also continue to play music until about 5 seconds is left on the play clock...should be a flag every time....

In Fargo the band plays until the ball is snapped...also illegal

I remember one game when I was in the band, we were playing a little too close to when the ball was snapped. The referees blew the play dead and gave an announcement to the band that a flag would be thrown if we continued to play up to the snap. We never did it again. Why referees don't give out the same stern warning to other venues is a mystery.
I remember something very similar when I played in the band...

We came out after halftime down 8. We went into the 4th down 25. The Jacks' 1st score in the 2nd half came after returning the opening kickoff to our 47. The 2nd score came after Homan's fumble and the ensuing PF against Dallas Hart that put the ball on our 31. Only the 3rd score was after taking over on a failed 4th down conversion...and that was with 5:46 left in the 3rd, at which point we were only down 38-20.

Just rewatched the game. Would love to see these wide open receivers? I saw a weak o-line get dominated, slow weak receivers fail to get separation, and a pathetic run game. Also saw Curran miss another td grab and Homan cough up a huge fumble. Yes, Brady didn't have a great game, but give me a break. And get real if you think there is another qb on this roster better than him.

Did Calhoun, the rb, get tripped up for the 2d game in a row by something diving at his feet from an angle?

How does a receiver jump up and touch a high pass if it is 4-8 feet over his head? Or do you literally mean over his head, and not over his hands?

Yes, JLM is extremely important to the team.

I'm fine with Lyons.

I agree with some of your other points.

To Brewskis and others, Y. Sanders is a good player and you are criticizing him too much.
Nguyen got caught from behind by the nose tackle. I remember posting about it in the game thread.

Describe the play. What were the circumstances? How did he "get caught from behind"? How far from the line of scrimmage did he get caught from behind? I really don't care what you posted. Most of your posts are not correct.
