Griz have offered Tinkle a contract extension, but he wants a 3 year contract with no penalty if he leaves early - basically wants to lock the Griz into a contract but have the option to leave at any time. UM would be foolish to sign a one-sided contract like that. Unless Tinkle is willing to commit long term to the Griz (and really there is no logical reason for him to do so given his current success and prospects) it is better for both to just keep doing 1 year extensions rather than a one-sided contract, and enjoy him while he is here and wish him the best of luck when he leaves.

In this age of "everybody for himself" it seems a modest amount of loyalty to ones employer is not a lot to ask. If he doesn't stay (and he shouldn't if it means advancing his career) then putting a reasonable buyout clause in his contract should not be an impediment to moving up. Anybody who really wants him should be will to foot the bill of funding a decent replacement process. Maybe make it $50K. Not so much a decent school can't afford it and enough to pay for some plane tickets and chicken dinners.

is it possible to pay a coach from private donations?

yes, Weber does, & started an endowment for that very reason. Rahe is at $275,000. Tinkle is @ $130,000 ish. I'm sure Growler1 could chip in an extra $100,000 annually with all the success he's had selling medical device companies.

rahe gets an annual bonus each july 1 of $100,000 that he is still at weber. i think this is part of the 275k but his salary is listed on utahsright.com as $322,249. i am not sure if weber can pay anymore than all this but it is the only reason he is still a big sky coach. i also wonder if he will leave weber this off season. his current contract ends in 2017.

griz are having the best regular season in griz history but i think the coach of the winning team on feb 28 should get coach of the year.

could isu get coach of the year if they finish 9-7 or 10-6 after starting out 2-8 with the old coach?

Yes, he could if he wanted to. But he is more interested in helping his Alma Mater as a university, than making sure a head coach sticks around. It's a whole lot picture picture than sports, dudes!

Yeah, who would have known that enemas were such a hot item out there in dingbatville. Only thing to know now is, is if he practices what he preaches.

Boy, am I going to get flake over that comment.

Up to now I've been keeping a low profile; what if I said..."the Devil made me do it?" Think that would help any?

Don't leave your day job in a futile attempt to be a comedian.

Blah blah blah, it is no big secret you have hardly given a dime to UM despite your constant "failed" attempts to act like you have big $$$. Put up or stfu Shorty. If shit were brains you would be Einstein. :loser:

Why don't you call out the moron who always instigates this sh*t? Should be pretty obvious to you if you just read the posts.

The dirt-merchant just called himself out................  :thumb:

I don't suppose you noticed that you both start and end your monickers with G1, right? You two need to retire to a private room at shady acres.

Oh my... Growler1 has completely gone off the deep end finally. He's arguing with himself now. :|

I guess this is what happens to the mind after many years of prescription drug abuse...

It just about has to go to the winner of the Griz vs WSU game. What ISU's new coach has done is pretty impressive though, but I'm not sure you can justify not giving it to the coach of a team that most likely will only have 1 loss in conference.

Can their be Co-Coaches of the year? Not that I condone that. Of course.

Speaking of private donations? Why couldn't Montana fans do the same thing that the Missoula community did for the police chaplain because he was underpaid. Get a stinkin' facility to sponsor a banquet, get some auction items, have a dinner sponsored, and have a stinkin' fundraiser/live auction and website live auction. I am sure there could be an easy $50,000-75,000 raised in a night. Chris and Brint, what do you say? Let's do this!

But, don't they have that already in place with the fundraising of the Athletic Assoc.?

Officially saying Tinkle is a DAMN GOOD COACH. And I'm admitting I'm somewhat of a dumbass for it taking me this long to figure it out.

Go Tinks! Go Griz!

I'm in this boat....I thought Tinkle was too nice and friendly to the players to be successfull.....

He's turned into a very good coach, who can adapt with players(another concern completely erased), and who is a tough son of a bitch when things aren't going well.

Last night I was worried about him having a stroke a couple of times.....

Also, great recruiter....

I agree that he is a great recruiter. Unfortunately we have 3 super-star talents riding the pine while he caters to his NAIA/hometown walk-on pet project ruining all of their progress. If one (or more) of those 3 studs leaves because of Tink's mis-mangement of these guys, this will negate all of this years sucess in my mind. Henderson is superstar talent, and I know he is pissed off not playing in front of a guy he is 20 times better than.

Wha.....wai.....WTF?

Care to explain that? I follow Griz basketball, and I have no idea what you're trying to communicate.

It's been discussed before, and I'm not gonna be-labor it, but to explain what I mean, I offer that we have 3 talented frosh Henderson, Gregory and DeShields that rarely play (all 3 could start for NAU) and are completely wasting their eligibilities while a much-less talented player has taken those minutes with little benefit short-term and none long-term. Even in a 20 point blow-out over pathetic NAU, Tinks doesn't put in Gregory until 3 minutes left? I'd be pissed. I don't think that is what he expected. You gotta get these guys minutes (preparing for next year) in games like this. I don't know if Tinks tried to red-shirt any of them, and they all refused or what, but it makes no sense to never play 3 good frosh. I am completely projecting, but it seems every year, "somebody" doesn't return the next year for whatever reason, usually a difference of opinion with the coach and their role. I just can not imagine all 3 of those guys will all be back next year after hardly playing and with Cherry and Jamar both back next year, there won't be many minutes for guards.
Just saying IF 1 or more of those talented guys leaves, we might have to re-evaluate the coaching decisions this year. I don't have any inside scoop or anything and I didn't mean to imply that I know anything specific.
