2 FOR 1 Coming Helena

PS: wished we would have used a fullback and undercenter inside the 10 with our anemic goalline offense that Pflu ran... don't you agree?

That's a big 10-4, good buddy.

wow people are calling for NAIA coach, yep our program is screwed
No matter how you may feel they did- Out of Western Montana - Sonny Holland, Mick Dennehy, Mick Delaney, and Tommy Lee. Just sayin'

goatcreekgriz is right on the analysis of the state of montana football,,,the type of offense will have nothing to do with who gets hired as head coach,,this president has made it clear it is about getting the student back in student athlete....mvd is has many of the qulifications that i believe this president wants in a head coach...his teams are kind of boring but win with defense and a running game....as far as winning, i think he has shown he is a winner, regardless whether naia or not, some would argue because there are so many teams and most kids at that level play for the love of the game, that it takes a superior coach to win, mvd could recruit montana but is not in the same ball park that phlu played in with all his connections outside the state...recruiting is still the name of college football teams imo....

Lol infiltrator, your pee in a cup comment largely unnoticed but I caught it.

And its funny people are asking me why I love the spread... Uh BECAUSE THE TEAM IS BUILT FOR IT! we have lighter and quicker offensive lineman, we have shorter spread QBs, we have shorter quicker running backs that are meant for the spread, we're a spread team.

If you change this system AFTER spring camp do you realize how bad this team will be on offense, for years? Pflu found out in 2010 you can't just change systems and he had a spring camp to work on the transition.

I have been thinking Van Diest as the logical and best choice as new coach since I heard about the purge. I know nothing about the A.D. This is not about finding a coach to fit players or about finding a coach who will run a scheme. This is about setting priorities. I can count on one hand the number of home games I did not attend over the past 15 years, but I am a proud graduate of the University of Montana first and football fan second. Hire Van Diest and put this crap in the rear view mirror. Naming Delaney as interim likely means he will be the head coach through spring practice, then a permanent coach will be in place before August. Get a grip, people.

I think Mick coaches the 2012 season. All the good "options" are locked into contracts right now...and Engstrom needs to hire a permanent AD before they hire a permanent coach. Hiring a coach right before the season starts would be catastrophic, IMHO.

The fight for the new coach is on. I, as of now have no dog in this fight. Expect this fight to continue on until early summer!

I will guarantee Mike Van Diest won't be the Griz coach next season. The period for hiring could not be worse. Many wanna bee coaches have all located, period. Granted some are available but not the selection during normal hiring season!

I think you are wrong. Delaney will be HC for the 2012 season. The time to hire a new coach is after a season, not in August.

I agree. Hiring a new coach in the summer would be a disaster, IMO.

The time to terminate a coach is after the season, not in the middle of spring ball. But I hope you are right about Delaney. Once I decide to retire, if I ever do, I'm retired. Seems to make more sense that Delaney agreed to get the team through the spring, and there is a deal being greased with someone else. If there is no deal with someone else being greased, I hope Delaney sticks through the season so an orderly search can be performed. These are not ordinary times, though, and discipline will be a high priority for the next non-interim hire. Van Diest would bring greater discipline, has nothing left to prove where he is, and that's why the scenario makes sense to me.

I'm in Helena and follow the Saints as much as I can---also have a lot of respect for Van Diest. But a few years ago he had a recruit who was accused of rape and when the charges were coming down he apparently made the choice to commit suicide. Talk about turn the season upside down. The Saints proceeded to lose their first conference game the next week and basically took the rest of the season to recover. Does this mean that Van Diest is forever marked by this tragic incident. No....... but shit does happen, folks.

Rather it be Van Diest, or whoever, I think we all agree, the new coach will have to be very much disciplinarian, and hold everyone accountable type.

As for Van Diest, winning at any level, like he has, is never easy, and something any coach has to be proud. I don't care the level of play, it is at, those kind of results have my respect. I am surely open to him being the next full time GRIZ coach.

Also to add, he strikes me as the kind of person who would not be using this as a stepping stone job, but someone who could be here for quite a long time, in comparison to past GRIZ coaches.

Suicide is always very hard in many ways, and without being close to the situation it is hard to know what it meant to the coaches there, especially long term. We do know that the sexual assault issues here are real, whether they stem from the perception of a program lacking control or from actual guilt of any perpetrator. We also know that Van Diest has coached here before, and has been at the helm of a very success program just down the road. At this juncture, the University of Montana does not need another climber.

Delaney-who was my high school coach-needs to be around for the whole year to give this group some continuity and piece-of-mind. This is more about these student/athletes then a quick regime change, and starting over. Give these kids a break, and let them play. Delaney or Read were logical choices, so these players could be at ease with the transition. Lets come together as Griz Nation and support this team like we never have before.

Thanks! "Piece-of-mind" would have been a bad zombie movie! Can't wait to see this team!

I'm sorry. Bruce Parker and Clean Program don't belong in the same sentence. If what you say is true, then it's time to head to Bozeman and unearth some skeletons. I personaly know about several.
