2 Candidates (Colter Nuanez)

I don't know if this would work but how about Baldwin as Head Coach and Hauck as Special Teams coach? (I know it's ridiculous, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway).

While Ty would be my preference, Bobby would obviously be just fine. And either Ty or Bobby would probably be in Missoula 5 years or longer if successful. Ty because he has no head coaching resume', and Bobby because he does (Bobby's UNLV experience probably means he needs to significantly rebuild his resume' and win a NC or two before another 1A would hire him. Plus, Bobby has been in a big city in a major market and from his interview with Chris Byers in Las Vegas a year ago, it sounds like he really misses and loves Montana and UM !!!)

I like the thinking of PlayerRep and AzDoc--Baldwin has already won a NC at Eastern, and if we hire him, I think he'll be another Joe Glenn--punch his ticket for 2-3 years and be gone to a 1A where he can triple or quadruple what we would pay him, thus I hope we pass on Baldwin, though he is an excellent head coach !

It should be pointed out that the choice being narrowed down to just these "2 Candidates" is only one man's opinion. That one man (Colter Nuanez) lives in Bozeman. He is not in the Montana AD's office. Nor is he getting private information out of Haslam.

So we might agree with him that these are two of the likely candidates. Yet there is no reason to believe it is a choice between only these two. It is the same as the other sports writer who said there were just four candidates. Just another opinion.

Haslam's comment was that he didn't have a list of finalists yet. So I guess I'll believe the actual source rather than those speculating based on second and third hand sources.

Baldwin would be by far our best option. He'd run circles around hauck. Considering he already dominates the conference at Eastern just think how he'd do here at UM.

The thing we truly don't know is how they would compare to each other. Baldwin took over at Eastern Washington in 2008 and Bobby left for UNLV in 2009, so there's only two seasons to compare the two head-to-head. Bobby is currently 2-0 against Baldwin, but it'd be interesting to how they'd compare now.

IMO, it's surprising that Baldwin's name is public with the game coming up this weekend. My suspicious mind tells me he is using this as an opportunity to let FBS schools know that he is a hot commodity and they should look at him. Or, he's using it to get a raise at Eastern. If he is sincerely interested in coming here, I don't think we would have heard a peep until an announcement was made. That said, I would be very happy with either Baldwin or Hauck....or Pease.

If Baldwin really is interested, then he can't be too happy it leaked. But names get thrown out for every open head coaching position and who knows the fact from the fiction. It is quite possible Baldwin has never talked to, or expressed any interest in the job.

Hauck has beaten Baldwin head to head twice, while he was at EWU. Probably beat him when he was at CWU too. How would Baldwin have done at EWU without his Prop 48 and other low qualifiers? Low in-state tuition at EWU, so that non-qualifiers can pay their own way for a bit. Wouldn't work at UM. How's Baldwin at fund-raising? How would he react to the heat if he dropped his first few games at UM?

Here's the funny thing about Boosters and their "funds"

They make terrible coaching decisions. Thats how we got pushed into Gene Carlson. But then its also how we got our first artificial turf and a pretty even QB battle solved a ways back.
MOST aren't nearly as influential as they think. Not once they start writing checks. A lot of work is put into making them think they are on the inside and they are kept eeever so close. But because they are buying their way inside, the ADs etc also know that their egos is what keeps the money coming. They may make a lot of noise, but at the end of the day most are not willing to give up being on the inside. There are a few exceptions, but darn few, and there are darn few involved with Montana that can afford what it takes to be a real influence like say hiring a head FB coach. You just can't sell out too cheap, let all the others who think they bought their way inside find out they aren't in as far as they think.

The decision will be based on who KH thinks is best and R/BOR approves.

After looking at who Griz fans might want as the next head coach......It makes me want to get a new guy that very little has been talked about or even mentioned. Perhaps Alpha would be a good candidate. I know it will be a few days before the announcement but I am ready to put this puppy to bed.

I can already see the confederate flag decal on the helmets and "Go Fuck Yourself" on the back of each jersey. :thumb:

I agree. I think Baldwin would do great things here. I think he would bring an exciting brand of football with him and hopefully bring his entire offensive staff. I would also like to see him keep our defensive staff plus Green. There should also be some assurances that Baldwin would stay for a minimum of 5 years.

As for Bobby, I would rather not bring him back due to some of the issues that have been brought up in other threads. While I don't know the truth, if only half of it were true, that's too much in my opinion. Another strike against Bobby is the style of offense he runs. I love to win, but I also pay money to be entertained. I don't find his offense exciting or entertaining.
At the same time, I love the winning tradition and intensity he brings. His hate for the Cats is another big plus for me. I also worry about how much pressure there would be to duplicate his past Griz success. Is it too much to ask for exciting offense AND wins?

I think the real score of the coaches that have been discussed would be Lubick. I think he would provide some fresh ideas and open new doors for UM. He would definitely bring in an explosive offense and even add some fresh recruiting territories as well. Can you imagine Chalich read option to Favors and chucking it to Jones and a healthy Henderson?!

I get the feeling that Lubick and Baldwin are far fetched reaches for us and it really feels like it's going to be between Bobby and Ty. Whatever decision it made, I honestly feel that Haslem get the best guy for us. No doubt, the future is bright. Go Griz!

I would guess Edwards and whoever the other guy was.

Just curious. What makes people think Baldwin cannot recruit to UM's standards? He has already recruited to CWU, and sounds like he did a great job. He has recruited to EWU, where let's face it,,,,,, there isn't much, other than ugly red turf, sub-par facilities and a very small town outside of Spokompton. It isn't like he has filled his team with Prop 48 kids. Maybe a couple each year. Seems to me that he is a pretty good recruiter.

Disclaimer - Don't think it matters.... I would be very surprised to see him at UM.
