Why the hell doesn't our local Montana stations cover our two teams anymore? Don't we count?

Last week's cat game and this week's Griz game are on the home turf of MVFC teams, and they hold the rights. Their agreement is with ESPN who holds the TV rights.

For whatever reason, I was able to watch the tail-end of the cat game on TV on ABC this weekend. Any idea why their game was aired in Montana with it being a MVFC home game and the ESPN+ ordeal?

No clue, I couldn't find it on my satellite, but I also wasn't too interested in attempting to find it either

When I got back to camp last week from Missoula, I caught the 2nd half of the cat game on ABC thru my Dish network. I wonder if our local Fox net will have our Griz game this week?

I believe his argument is he don’t give a F who owns the rights, all Montana games should be shown locally no matter what.

Exactly! Besides, ESPN+ isn't TV it is internet.

According to GoGriz.com, it's only available on ESPN+. Here's what I found on GoGriz:

WATCH: The broadcast rights to Montana's game at Western Illinois are owned and managed by WIU. Through its affiliation with the MVFC and its partnership with ESPN the Griz/Leathernecks game will only be available to stream on ESPN+, the network's subscription-based OTT streaming service, available on Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, and other app-based streaming services, via the ESPN App. The game will not be shown by a local broadcaster in Montana.

My understanding is ESPN+ owns the TV viewing rights to broadcast the MV “football” games. But the boobcats don’t play “football.” IDK what they call the game they play.... “furball” maybe? Either way, anyone can broadcast that shit because nobody cares

Personally, I'm hoping that DirecTV, with its nationwide affiliations, somehow wrangles a broadcast despite the ESPN+ arrangement. That has happened before, but it's a total crap-shoot and we generally don't know until some time Friday.

As for streaming, in general ... not everyone has Internet access with enough bandwidth for that to be tolerable. With the local (effective) monopoly on telephone service (DSL), we would have to pay two full (basically) access fees to get a connection fast enough to stream live events. Still hoping for that to change, but it hasn't yet. (Nor has it, in a real pinch, stopped me from streaming anyway ... however frustrating it gets.)

BTW: If you have other big games you planned/hoped to watch, you might check the latest schedules. The threat from hurricane Florence has already changed the schedule for several games. Example: Coastal Carolina moved their planned home game to Buies Creek(!?) to play the Fighting Camels of Campbell University. FYI, Campbell is in the Big South (FCS) conference and the town is located about 25 miles south of Raleigh. They also moved the time up ... so the game is over (58-21 Coastal) and the Chanticleers will spend the next few days in St. Augustine, FL because their campus is closed.

For what it's worth, I KNOW I watched part of the SDS/Cat game on TV last week. I don't remember if it was on SWX Montana (over the air) or Direct TV Sports Package, but it was definitely one of the two.

I guess it sucks to be someone who has no rational of broadcasting rights or domain. #Babyboomers #entitled Same type of person who wants to "cut the cord" because TV is expensive.

I know it was on ABC/SWX programming guide. I didn't watch but was supposed to follow the Griz one.

So....it is possible to get home games from that conference shown on TV if negotiations are made.

The Cat slaughter game was carried by SWX in Billings last week after the Griz victory.

Last week's MSU game was listed on Ch 681-1 Root, but it was not available. ESPN+ sounds fine, but there are a lot of places in MT where the ISP is not fast enough to stream.

Stop making sense! I want to be mad at our local stations for stuff they don't have control over! Baaahhh! Let me shake my fist!

I know some of you old farts have a hard time with this. And, that is okay. Here is what you need to do. 1)Connect your PC/Laptop/tablet/phone to your tv. The easiest way to do this is with an HDMI cord (it will provide video and sound). If you don't have an HDMI port on your device, the other cord based option is connect a VGA cord and audio cords. I guarantee a local kid will do this for you if you don't know how.

Then, either sign up for ESPN+. Or, if you don't like signing up for things on the internet (understandable), pm me. For those that know my PM option, it will be perfect this time. I can use different hardware this time. :thumb:
