Montana moved two notches upward again in the Mid-Major Madness rankings. They're now up to 15. The College Insider poll will be released later today. Go Griz.

Montana is up to 14 in the College Insider poll (which doesn't include Atlantic 10 or Mountain West - MidMajor does).

There's a live link to today's College Insider Poll in the embedded tweet below.
But I wanted to post this photo, taken during Montana's last home stand (SUU/NAU). Because, slightly behind the coach in street clothing is Donaven Dorsey, fully engaged in the time out and coach DeCuire's clipboard talk.
If Donaven heals up fully enough to play next season, this team will continue to be a formidable mid-major force.

Donaven is walking better every time I see him at a home game. I am hoping he will be granted two years of eligibility instead of just one more. Is there any news on the medical hardship front?

Is his future health in question?

Nothing that I'm aware of. Last week he was pretty animated at the end of the Griz bench.

To my Knowledge, the rumored health issue has been negated, after some tests. :thumb:
Do you know if a medical redshirt/hardship year is possible? :?

It's always a possibility. I doubt it will even be filed/submitted to the NCAA until next season. I won't be surprised if he is granted an extra year. Just my opinion though. :thumb:

He never played in a game all season because of injury. What is the debate? Why wouldn't he get another year? Seriously asking

He used a redshirt year to transfer schools. To get a 2nd redshirt year, the university must file for it on behalf of the player. This applies here. I honestly see no reason to deny him.

From the NCAA's site on eligibility:

"Division I five-year clock: If you play at a Division I school, you have five-calendar years in which to play four seasons of competition. Your five-year clock starts when you enroll as a full-time student at any college. Thereafter, your clock continues, even if you spend an academic year in residence as a result of transferring; decide to red shirt, if you do not attend school or even if you go part-time during your college career."

It later says:

"Waiver: An action that sets aside an NCAA rule because a specific, extraordinary circumstance prevents you from meeting the rule. An NCAA school may file a waiver on your behalf; you cannot file a waiver for yourself. The school does not administer the waiver, the conference office or NCAA does."

From another writeup on the 5 year clock being extended to 6 years, it sounds like if the player misses 2 years for reasons beyond their control (injury for example) then they are likely to be granted a 6th by the NCAA.

Here's a link I found on another school's site talking about that. Not sure if it's up to date or not or whether the NCAA would view Dorsey having to sit out a year after transferring as being beyond his control. I hope so, it'd be nice to have him for 2 years.

From what I know all tests on Donaven were good news and the surgeries also went well. Knowing the details of the injury, I would be shocked, SHOCKED, if the NCAA didn't grant him a medical hardship waiver. It's created for exactly this situation
