one of my biggest regreats about being born in 1982 is the fact that i missed the 1980 olympic hockey tourney! haha...but i guess i can add doug selvigs shot to that list also

Did some more research.....

48 Teams - 12 per region (10th seed or higher)
Weber State (1979) - #7 Midwest Seed
Weber State (1980) - #7 West Seed
Idaho (1981) - #7 West Seed
Idaho (1982) - #3 West Seed
Weber State (1983) - #9 West Seed

64+ Teams - 16 per region (12th seed or higher)
Weber State (2003) - #12 Midwest Seed
Montana (2006) - #12 Minneapolis Seed

Note....prior to 1979, teams were not seeded with a number.

Nationally ranked would be pretty hard considering the Big Sky is ranked as the 3rd weakest conference in the country and with Montana's spanking last year from Wisconsin I just don't see any Big Sky team getting higher than a 12 or 13. Usually Big Sky teams get the benefit of a higher seed the year following a nice tourney win but not a blowout loss.

This. We didn't get it done out of confernce this year. They aren't going to give the champions from a bottom 3 conference anything better than a 12, especially when we are 0-3 against the top 100. I get the feeling a lot of Griz fans are going to be very upset when the brackets are announced this year.

The Griz beat them 53-51.

On Doug Selvig's "Shot Heard Round the World!".
I was at that game. Idaho's coach Don Monson had instituted a "match up zone" which at the time was revolutionary. The matchup zone had a lot to do with The Vandals three year run and a national ranking as high as # 6. The zone took other teams a while to figure out, plus Idaho had the athletes to run it to perfection. I think the attendance for that game was "to the rafters" and we'll over 10,000 which was consistent back then. Idaho lost two games that season. Our win had a lot to do with the crowd. I believe our wins against Weber this year and last had a lot to do with the crowd.

The conference was solid back then in talent. If we run the table we might get 13 or 14. I feel like others that we won't go without losing the rest of the season. Weber looked like a very good team and at home they will be daunting.

Here is a interesting statistic. I looked up Missoula county population quickly. In 1990 it was 79687 and in 2009 it was 108623. That is 29936 more people that could possibly attend a Griz basketball game, but don't.

As Andy Katz(I think it was him) said, they take a lot of things into consideration. Those 3 losses against top 100 RPI teams came without our lead player, Cherry. And we only lost then by 7 to #15RPI Colorado State and by only 1 in double OT to #72 RPI SDSU. We lost by 10 to San Fran with a similar RPI as us(130) and our only bad loss to BYU(#62 RPI) well, hey even good(great) teams have a bad night, especially on the road. Again, all of these games came WITHOUT Will Cherry(yah, I know Will played the SDSU game, but had just returned from his injury and was definitely not up to speed).

Who knows what the committee will do, but it isn't just based on that our conference is a bottom dweller. And if we win out that is a great story and anything lower(with other criteria considered) than 12 I think just ain't happening. Frankly, I don't want to have like an 8, 9, or 10. Yah, it's looks pretty, but when we win our first game we our then probably playing a #1, 2 or 3 seed. Oh, what the hell, bring it on! :thumb:

I think an 11 is the absolute best, but the Griz would need to run the table thru the BSC tournament, a very tough task, but not impossible. I wouldn't worry about anything Alpha says in basketball, he probably doesn't even know where Dahlberg Arena is. :thumb:

Griz or any sky team getting a ten seed would be amazing. Of course im also hoping your team doesnt get in and my team does instead.

When weber got that 12 seed we had a 17 game win streak, finished 14-0 and 16-0 including the conf tourney. We were 26-5. Our best win was byu who was also a 12 seed.

I think its hard to guess year to year what seed a team can get with so many different and changing factors.

No way on a 10 seed, I haven't checked but how low is the RPI for the Big Sky? I recall a post showing IF the Griz win out (which will be a very hard task to complete) they'd have an RPI of 49. If that's the case we'd probably be looking at about a 12 seed.

My guess is that they probably drop a game (hopefully not 2) on this road trip, as long as it's to Weber or Davidson I see a 13 seed for the Griz.

Also, I'm pretty sure the Big Sky's Conference RPI was a lot better in 02-03. Personally, the best, and I'm with WeberWildcat, I hope Weber pulls if off somehow, if not we best get an NIT invite (sure it won't happen since our conference blows goats after UM and Weber. Good to see UND and SUU are helping things a bit), yet, I don't see UM getting anything better than a 12.

Could be wrong here... The Sky could shock all of us and the go undefeated in the Bracket Buster games, which might push the conference up a couple of spots in RPI. We can always hope right?

The Grizzlies will have to win out to even have a shot at # 10 or 11 seed. While a #10 may not be impossible it is most assuredly improbable even with winning out. The problem with either of the above is that they each have more to do with what happens outside of the BSC than whether the Griz go undefeated.

Given the landscape, with no dominant team in college basketball this year, but with a ton of very good teams, particularly in the Big 10 and the BIg East and the SEC, (down year for the ACC top to bottom), I think it will be very tough for the committee not to go 6-8 teams deep in the Big 10 and maybe 5 in the Big East and the SEC. The ACC will most likely get 3-4 because even in a down year they are going to get at least 3. Then there are a number of conferences that can boast 3 teams that should be given consideration.

If there are any major upsets in conference tournaments as there usually are that will mix things up even further. None of this bodes well for the BSC representative.

IMO the Griz will need to win big at Davidson to get any consideration above 12. I agree with most others that a 13 or 14 seed are the most likely possibilities.

I didnt think you could ever get any more annoying and then you come with this. About 16 thousand posts, when are you ever going to add anything to this place?

I quit adding anything about 15k posts ago when I realized the kind of douchenozzles I was dealing with. The only reason any of us post here is to annoy those that annoy us.

GB1.......I know where Dahlberg realty is.....jeez. :coffee:
