#1 Recruit in Nation flips on Florida St to play FCS for Deion

Thought I'd bump this since it didn't get much attention with more important stuff going on.

Sanders turned out to be a pretty good coach at the SWAC level. And he brought an amazing amount of attention to HBCU football. The powers-that-be class the SWAC and MEAC as FCS level. But the numbers show that they -- especially the SWAC -- are not competitive when they play OOC games with other FCS conferences. (They do well against D-II and lower. :D )

Personally, I see very little benefit coming the way of FCS football in general. Perhaps some others have better insights?

Really stupid move on Mr. Hunter's part. Sure, he'll get to play. One can-do player playing with 10 who can't. I watched South Carolina State dissect Neon's dream team.

"Dissect" is a good term. J-State had virtually no running game (net 19 yard), and the younger Sanders couldn't complete even half of his passes (16 of 36). And SC State was by no means a strong FCS-level opponent.

You have to admit, however, that -- despite a measurably inferior product -- the top HBCU schools draw more fans than almost any other FCS programs. Must be those bands.

I guess "Neon" needs a few more of those guys. Right now, South Carolina State out of the MEAC is kicking some SWAC fannie, 31-10. That glittery 11-1 record for Jackson State tells you something about their level of competition ... SC State came in at 6-5 but still looks like the vastly better team, overall.
South Carolina State has a high number of grads who are or were playing in the NFL. I'd love to see the Griz here. alas..

If that kids last name wasn't Sanders he doesn't win the Rice. Calling him a deer in the headlights is doing a disservice to deer.

Good one! :thumb:

It was a bit of a surprise, actually. Shedeur went into that game with a very high QB rating. Even after the debacle yesterday, he's ranked #11 among FCS quarterbacks (30 TDs vs 8 INTs, good completion percentage, etc.).

Just shows that "heredity" isn't everything. Whatever a fan's opinion of "Neon Deion" might be, he performed at a top level in the big moments. The son is young and has time to learn, but he was clearly not ready for the big moment.
