Lady Griz kick the cat kittens all over their own litterbox tonight 79-54. Freshman Mandy Morales leads the LG with 13 points and 13 boards. The cat announcer was making a big deal about how young msu is. I hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but the Lady Griz have 6 Freshmen and 6 Sophomores, while the kittens have 4 Freshmen and 4 Sophomores. I don't think there is any arguement over which team has the better young talent as well. It is going to be a looooooong season in bozone this year. I think they will be lucky to get 5 BSC wins.

Griz men need to get off to a good start tomorrow night against a decent bobcat team. We can't keep coming from behind, especially in BSC play on the road.

IMO the men cant get behind early like they did against ISU and Weber because its a road game against the Cats and it will be super tough for them to get back in the game. BEAT THEM EARLY AND OFTEN

Way to go Lady Griz!!!

Quite impressive but very much expected against this Bozo Team. A twenty point win on the road is very sweet.

Reflecting on the game (the game was great from a Lady Griz standpoint) things may have not looked to good at least in Helena, where we were watching. My wife, who years ago spent some time in the advertising arena, mentioned the type of advertising during the game was not raising a lot of revenue for the TV station, unless a lot of country western tapes were being sold.

She stated that the nearly constant country music recording commercials that were being run, at least in Helena, only produced revenue for the station based on a percentage of the tapes that were sold during the game. Can anyone confirm that?

Not a lot of advertisor were lined up to bring us this game. Helena did have 3 or 4, but not a lot of paying advertisors. Maybe it was due to the exspedted outcome, but still some folks were going to be watcing the game and willing to listen to the commerials.

How did this game fare in other cities??

I don't know what the announced attendance is, but there is no comparison on the level of support between the two teams. The Lady Griz are always in the upper tier in D1 attendance in the country. They have been fortunate to have much more stability in the program with Selvig. The bobcat program keeps stubbing their toe with coaches. I think they may have a good one now, but they had a great one in Frank McCarthy, until he screwed that up. They have had some great teams in the past and they get decent support when they win. Even now they are probably in the top 3 in attendance in the BSC so you can't fault their fans too much considering they have only won 1 game so far. Binford may get it done, but it is going to take a while. I hope she doesn't try to do it with JC players because there is enough talent in MT to stock the LG and cats, along with a few Frontier teams.

The announced attendance last night was about 3,400 or so. A big part of it was that student tickets for today's game were distributed after the game, so a lot of students showed up for that reason. It was a hard game to watch from a Bobcat standpoint, but I'll say that the Lady Griz are really good. They really distributed the scoring. Mandy Morales is a quality player, even though she was hit with a technical foul for pushing Scotta Morton. The depth of the Grizzly bench is strong. I was impressed with most of the Grizzlies. Britney Lohman hit a key shot in her return to Bozeman. (She may be a Grizzly, but she's still my friend) The Lady Cats always finish in the top 3 in attendance in the Big Sky, usually second behind the Griz.

As for the direction of the program, Coach Binford is doing a great job. After watching coaches switch every 2-3 years or so, I hope she sticks around for a while. I don't think she'll go with JC players in the near future. I am really excited about the direction of the Bobcat women's basketball program, but sometimes the foundation has to be completely torn up and rebuilt. They'll improve and may get 2-3 conference wins or so. But no one can bad mouth the ladies' effort; they gave everything they could against an exceptionally good Grizzly squad.

RE: Binford

Dear Bozbobcat: I beg to differ. The last ten times the Cats have hired a new women's coach, she/has has come out of the gate slugging. In every case, they were very well coached and competitive from the get go.

I think that this group of Cats has a reasonable amount of talent, but they aren't playing as a team. No smack intended, but I think you have finally hired a coach who isn't (at least yet) a strong coach. I think a whole lot of coaches would have done much more with the Cat talent than Binford has. I know, I know, the Cats are young, etc. But, at least now, this Griz fan is not worried about the direction of the Cat women's hoop team. She reminds me of our Kennedy.

She is not a very gracious loser either. She was making excuses. Her only compliment to the lady Griz was the standard coach speak of " not taking anything away from Montana". Selvig gave her team far more compliments. She must have taken some charm school from potera before she got run out of town. I wonder how much msu had to pay Potera after she sued them.

Interesting points. Maybe she wasn't as gracious as she could have been. I didn't hear the postgame interview, so I don't know. Now that I think of it, the team doesn't play great together and I'm not sure if the best talent is being used. Look at the Bobcat post position. I just figured that a fresh start would do the team good. I'm not going to be the same way as Binford, the Grizzlies were great on Friday and they're an excellent team with a good coach in Robin Selvig. (That was hard to say, especially the part about Selvig.) Your points are well taken, gentlemen, and I'll consider some of these things when watching the Lady Cats.
