I had heard that UM was unsure she was D1. She FOR SURE is. I'm glad they came around. Her state tournament as a sophomore was the stuff of legend. She was out of her mind as a pitcher and hitter. Hopefully she bounces back from injury that cost her last spring. She's a stud and a really polite young lady as well. I've enjoyed having her on ESPN radio.
100% agree. I have watched the grizzlies bring in plenty of out-of-state softball talent only to watch them struggle when I know certain Montana girls would be holding their own. Look no further than Anna Cockhill to start to realize some of the softball talent in Montana. A girl out of Shepherd just signed with Pitt. I don’t even know if we recruited her. She threw 65 mph and had a sub-1 ERA. These kids can play and deserve a shot.
Completely agree. I don't think individual talent cares that much about geography. People make points about regular exposure to deep talent pools, etc. while players are developing. I agree with a lot of that on the margins (i.e., turning an average player into a good one over time), but those are kind of "depth" points. Like if you take an average 6yo and put her into the system in a hotbed for 10-12 years, that particular player might come out "better" than she would have if she played those years in Alaska. I get that. But I think players with DI talent in anything are outlier cases by definition. And outliers can always play.
