Who are new heavy's?

100% on the cuts. I was a college coach. Most of the attrition that happens occurs in March through May. There are lots of situations that players control that determines whether they can return too. Graduation, retirement, flunking out, etc. Coaches make roster decisions after spring practice is concluded, they then go into player meetings and the good news/bad news conversations happen. No coach loves this time. Fewer happen than one would think, but they do occur.

I guess if I saw a team that was going through this, but I haven't found anything concrete or reputable. I have searched as hard as I can for even one example with a name, school, and program and have found nothing about scholarships being withdrawn from incoming freshmen. UM had over 20 recruits for 2026 and another 20 for 2027 signed prior to the 5 to play 5 participation rule taking affect in June and not one player has had a scholarship revoked yet. If anyone sees or hears of anything I would love to look into it.

As far as scholarship offers and whatnot, I also agree. They are usually taken care of prior to May. However, not every player at UM is on scholarship. FBS is a whole different world, but I think our conference rules only allow like 68 scholarships. We have many players who see significant time that don't get a full ride.

FCS allows 63 full scholarship equivilents irrespective of conference. Some conference limit beyond the 63, e.g., 0-63.
 
Heavy transfers Zaiden Wallace and Manase Tupou. From Payton's post:

DL- Manase Tupou 6'0" 340 (Utah State), 4 to play 4
DL- Zaiden Wallace 6'5" 290 (Nevada)

I hear transfers Tyler King (CW) and Nui Tovey (Utah Tech), DE's, look good. Also returning DE Schwartz. Pifferini still recovering from being hurt, but working hard to get there.

Solo will play the same position, DE/ LB hybrid.

I get that people keep talking about cutting players, but it doesn't work that way. Even if they get cut because another player was better, they still count as a scholarship for the year. So with the max number of scholarships, there will be less scholarships available this year for high school seniors than normal. Those cuts happen in the spring, not in fall camp.

The last thing I would say is that I agree with you that coaches will be able to fix the problem on their individual team. And the easiest, safest fix is to just keep your 5th year player that you know can be on the field for you, and not risk letting them go to bring in a development project.

As I mentioned to the other guy, that doesn't work as well in practice as it does in theory. Once the scholarship is locked in, it can't be taken away. And if you try to dangle it and say "we will give the scholarship to whoever wins the competition in camp," then you likely lose both the fifth year player and the high schooler.

HHH, do you still think 5 for 5 won't impact frosh recruiting? It already has, and it will continue in the future. Frosh classes are going to get permanently smaller. There are only so many players on the field and so many scholarships, and some of the better 5th years who continue to play are going to take some of those spots. This year, and forever. The number of players on the field didn't get expanded to open up more playing time.

With all due respect, I know I am not HHH but I honestly dont think HS recruiting will change much at the FCS level. I feel that graduating seniors (5th years) will be replaced by freshman recruits and that those that leave for the portal will be replaced by portal players for the most part.
