Joining the Mountain West would run an $8MM - $9MM annual deficit - can we overcome that?

Note - The convo I had I can say for sure he knows what's going on at MSU, and what he said about UM is probably a mix of what he knows and what MSU said about UM's situation.

As for stadium I'm pretty sure several people here are very much aware of plans and have seen them, which is more then me, and have probably donated to it already but can't speak on it directly. Because it's not officially happening yet. The huge money donations are the key for FBS, they aren't giving anything for that until the school hits a threshold on their end.

I had to take a peek at what this guy was saying just for shits and giggles. Baffles me that someone who claims to be so big time knows literally nothing about what's happening within the program and the school as a whole in this case. I haven't seen them but people here and even parents have seen the West side (and other smaller changes) stadium plans. And we were told the dollar amount, I rounded DOWN to 100m. That's how I know he's an absolute fraud lol.

MSU and UM are not looking at $100 million stadium expansions. Or was that the other source of misinformation MP3.

You said each school was doing $100 million stadium expansions. And the stadiums would be dramatically different.

You are clueless. How well do you know the governor? How many members of board of regents. How well do you know Bodnar? How about the top of the UM athletic department? don’t know what you are talking about. You don’t seem to know much about our state.
 
For the Montana universities: “Before public universities in Montana (such as the University of Montana or Montana State University) can proceed with expanding their football stadiums, several key administrative, financial, legal, and operational arrangements must be put in place:

1. Governance & Approval Requirements​

  • Montana Board of Regents (BOR) Approval: Under Montana University System (MUS) policies, any major capital construction project, facility modification, or long-term lease of campus land requires formal authorization and approval from the Board of Regents. This typically happens in phases:
    • Planning & Design Approval: Authorization to spend preliminary funds on architectural design, engineering studies, and work plans.
    • Final Project Approval: Authorization of the full project scope, construction contracts, and financing structure.
  • Legislative Spending Authority: Because university facilities are state-owned property, major capital construction projects must be included in state legislative budget authority requests or comply with specific Montana statutory frameworks governing university property leases and athletic improvements.

2. Financial & Funding Arrangements​

  • Private Philanthropy & Foundation Commitments: By MUS policy and standard practice, stadium expansions cannot be funded through state tax dollars or student tuition/fees. Funding must be secured beforehand through:
    • Major philanthropic gifts raised via university foundations (e.g., UM Foundation or MSU Foundation).
    • Capital campaigns targeting lead donors.
  • Self-Generated Athletic Revenue & Debt Service: If debt financing or bonds are used to cover a portion of construction costs, the athletic department must establish a clear plan showing repayment solely through self-generated revenues, such as:
    • Ticket sales and premium seating (e.g., sky suites, club seats).
    • Media rights and corporate sponsorships.
    • Stadium concessions and vendor agreements.

3. Master Planning & Operational Logistics​

  • Facilities Master Plan Integration: The project must align with the university’s broader long-range Athletic Facilities Master Plan to ensure campus cohesion and long-term space utilization.
  • Infrastructure & Environmental Planning: Before breaking ground, universities must arrange for site and municipal logistics, including:
    • Structural engineering assessments and safety code updates.
    • Parking, traffic management, and campus footprint integration.
    • Utility and environmental impact considerations (power grids, drainage, sound, and lighting)”. AI.

MSU’s written general plan, for which they sought a small RFP in November to do a couple hundred thousand of initial looking, said 22,000 - 25,000.
