Coach Kennedy new 4 year contract

Love BK and excited to see what he can do. However, eyebrow raising with how this was handled from the start. At least from the outside the optics are confusing at best.
Boy howdy. Gets 4 years without ever being a head coach and ever proving a thing on the field...love what he's done with recruiting, and I'm about 80% certain this won't come back to bite the program in the ass, but it seems....unnecessary? Unless the issue was what recruits were saying/doing because he's only "interim"?

Odds are, there was a pretty good chance that whomever was hired would have a similar background when it comes to head coach experience and would have gotten a similar deal.

It will never make sense that they gave him a one year contract to begin with.

Should've been a standard 3 year contract with a low buyout due to lack of experience. Giving him a multi year contract is the right move, however doing it after giving him a one year contract to begin with is bizarre. Poorly handled by Haslem, but this is closer to getting it right, so I guess good job Kent!

Wow. Not thrilled with this.

He absolutely could nail being a head coach, but if he lays an egg... I wanted to at least see some of his results from this fall before extending his contract that long.

However brief they have been, interactions with BK from a player and family standpoint have been good thus far. And there was ZERO talk of him in a way that was interim. Everything was about what he's doing, changing, upgrading, implementing, etc moving forward in the program. From that standpoint, I imagine this was decided long ago.

Man IDK if I would have given him a 4 year deal. I will admit, he's had a great offseason and the optics and excitement around the program right now are very high. You can even see it in the fundraising as QB Club has added over 80 new members since he has become head coach. That said, I can't justify a 4 year contract when he's never coached a game before. I get what HHB is saying about an external hire would've likely gotten this same deal, but I think if I were AD I would've went with 2-3 years and made the buyout low enough that you have an out in the event that things don't go well this year. We shall see. I hope he's wildly successful and he has one hell of a track record as a position coach, but this is a completely different ball game.

Huge congrats to coach. He's done everything right and has honestly earned this. Given the circumstances, it 100% makes sense that this was the way it would go. I have to believe that the improvements won't simply stop at recruiting and community outreach.

Wholistically however, I am just not thrilled at the entire process here. We're either gonna look back on this moment in five years as the catalyst to our return as a football power, or the decision that cemented us as the lesser program in the state.

My fear is that we've now done the easy thing when hard decisions were needed to be made and addressed on a program level.

Very good and smart move IMO. There are current players and recruits that need to know he will be around for a while. This is big peace of mind for many of them. They love BK and everything I am seeing is solidifying that for me too
Agreed. Im hearing the only hesitation on some recruits was his 1 year deal... hes had a pretty high level of success on the recruiting trail despite this, now he can cook. Id assume we see several more big commitments in the coming few weeks with this news.

Hes done everything right thus far, obviously gotta prove it on the field now, but limiting him to a one year deal was going to limit his ability to succeed. GO GRIZ

Guy brings an energy. And seems to try to get to know his players at a personal level which many head coaches don't widely do. Will go and talk it up with campers even. Natural leader. Have to see him during the season right, but it's not like he's a new young coach. Guy has been around a lot of big time football and knows how he wants it done.

Do we know the buyout? I would also assume this is a pretty friendly compensation number for UM.

I would have preferred a 3 year Contract as he hasn't proved himself yet, but it can't be ignored that he's done alot of awesome things in regards to recruiting and generating excitement. Hoping nothing for the best for BK, and will be interested to see what he does if/when Pease retires after this season (personal opinion he might).
