MBBALL The Zoo

I'm a big fan of DeCuire and his staff.
They can recruit, they can coach, they teach character.
Unless you transfer out, you're likely to get a degree.
But dealing with the fan base and the media?
Distant. Aloof. Dare we say, Hauck-esque?
Still no roster up on GoGriz. I asked Gemini A.I. for a roster.
It was wrong. If it weren't for caring fans on eGriz, this roster would remain a Rubik's cube.
It's not about legal issues, possible transfers, or any other excuse.
It's about this staff. Their relationship to the fan base.
They seem not to give a damn.
Back in the day, we had a fan base known nationwide for its rowdiness and sometimes over-the-line antics
It was called The Zoo.
It was a critical element of Montana's history as a legendary basketball program.
It's my contention that it is still there, waiting to be revived, restored, renewed.
But DeCuire and his never go to the Zoo.

I used to love zoo's. After watching Happy Feet, not so much. I still go but i know those animals aren't happy. Fed and taken care of but not happy.

Not at the major programs. Zoo-like fans are still there:
Cameron Crazies.
Rock Chalk Jayhawk.
Zona Zoo.
Kentucky Bluebloods.
The Paint Crew Purdue.
Gonzaga, Indiana, Carolina....
Go look up a list of "The 16 Most Obnoxious Fans in College Basketball."
No "times have changed" or "students have different priorities" or "different options for entertainment," at any of those schools.
Montana was once right up there with them.
If I were in charge of Montana's basketball program, this is the first issue I would address.
But with this administration and coaching staff, it seems to be the last.
And has been for a long time.

My belief is the students today do not know how to "start" anything on their own. They are used to having entertainment delivered to their fingertips with little to no effort on their own. We have seen massive campaigns to get the students back to basketball over the last 10-15 years. I believe we have gone about it the wrong way. We need to sell the upper deck seats CHEAPLY or give many away each game for different reasons. Once a young father or mother brings a child, that child is likely going to develop into a fan and beg for more game attendance. If we were able to fill the upper deck, then, and only then, would today's students see and feel the excitement that Griz basketball can be again. It would show them how electric basketball games can be and then, they would more likely attend an event that has already been created for them by others. This is why they go to Griz football games, the event was already there for them to become a part of.

I think I see the issue behind your belief.
