What We Can Do As Griz Fans

Boy you come up with some wild shit don’t you?
Not wild at all, why can the other universities (University of Gonzaga, U of Portland and Westmont a school 1/2 the size of UM host a team. If the reports are true, 50K a day, that's not pocket change. FIFA is also replacing Gonzaga soccer field because it didn't meet their regulations.

I’m more surprised why Colorado doesn’t have any World Cup team interested in coming here. Montana doesn’t have the facilities or even the airport to support this.

From everything I've read, the teams themselves selected where they wanted to train/practice, so not sure what UM could have done if they weren't contacted by a team about practicing here.

Also, I think you might need to use your noggin a little more if you can't see why a team would prefer to go to a "small D2 school" with a larger soccer complex that's located in Santa Barbara, California over our smaller one in Missoula, Montana.

They also don’t have a football team using their facilities. Are we suggesting kicking the Griz football team out of their facilities for another country during the World Cup?

The Griz football team is using South Campus Stadium and Dornblaser for the voluntary summer workouts?

You think a World Cup team is going to want to use South Campus Stadium or the indoor practice facility and the football stadium? FWIW Donrblaser and South Campus Stadium wouldn’t qualify due to lack of privacy but the indoor practice facility and Washington Grizzly Stadium would.

They would be excluded because of the playing surface.

It kind appears FIFA is screwing over host cities. Always been a shady organization. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/73...hared_gift_article_copylink&smid=url-share-ta

Coming to Missoula from Europe or Asia means likely having atleast 2 layovers. I had 3 layovers when I flew to Hong Kong from Missoula. I can’t even get a direct flight to Missoula from Sky Harbor which is American’s hub in the mountain time zone. The lack of access disqualifies Missoula from the start when it comes to hosting an international team most likely from Asia or Europe.

You think they are flying commercial?

Their fans are. Turkey fans from all over the US as well as Turkey itself are in Mesa and the surrounding area right now. It helps that Turks aren’t soft enough to complain that it’s too hot when it isn’t even triple digits.

So...not sure fans flying commercial and having to make multiple changes of planes is a factor.

You know a football field and a futbol field are not the same size, and there's a pretty big difference between sprint turf and grass, right?

This whole idea is silly because our soccer facilities are not up to these teams' expectations, and that's the end of it.

Yeah I was thinking of other football stadiums hosting games but didn’t think about how narrow the sidelines are at Washington Grizzly Stadium and none of the stands are movable to make the field larger.
