Griz Soccer 2026

Agree.
calm down everyone. I know we have signed:
*P4 forward
*a keeper that Stu has known for a long time
*a Sun Belt starting center back (nothing to do with Troy)

There is a few more in the works, press release will get done once the portal is complete. Also very underwhelming picks up from the other schools in the conference.

For now just exercise a little patience.
That seems like a successful foray into the portal. 👊 Proposing next year's team mantra "Griz Soccer: No Excuses." Looking forward to seeing this team get after it!

Assuming this information is accurate, what is the harm in publicizing it to the fan base? Even if names can’t be named due to portal paperwork, the fans sure would appreciate an encouraging “Big addition to the team” or “We’ve added to the Griz attack” general announcement as we have seen in previous years.

Currently only info out there are 1. Gore’s appeals on X for portal players to reach out and 2. speculation on this forum ( so of course the fan base is nervous)!

Gore did post a while back about getting a great P4 addition but then no ones heard news since.

Mrs. Gore knows how busy Stu is with recruiting and evaluating prospects, so she has permission to pacify us by confirming three signings in exact areas of need that Stu identified earlier. She says his portal work is still in progress, and signing names will officially be released in good time. Her key words were "to calm down and exercise patience." Good Luck with that!!!

Social media activity has definitely dropped especially on Instagram, which is where most players / recruits follow programs and many catch updates. Right now, the GrizSoccer account feels a bit like a placeholder, but sure all are busy.

It would be nice to see the regular posting return, in and out of season. Consistent content engages, excites, and would support fundraising and outside involvement.

I did notice Montana posted an opening for a social media position within athletics, so that may be part of the reason for the slowdown.

As dad of a ‘28 recruit, I can confirm that lack of social media presence has hurt. It sucks.

A program with three back to back conference championships and an NCAA appearance has since fallen off the radar for several excellent players on my daughter’s ECNL team.

I get that this is superficial BS to most of us, but it means a lot to most 15-18 year olds being recruited.

I can’t believe Citowicki was solely in charge of social media - but it hasn’t been the same since he left for WSU. Hope they fill the position with someone savvy soon.

If a recruit only wants a team because of their social media account then we don’t want that player. It’s superficial nonsense. Losing hurts your team not lack of social media active. Everyone is irritated because Stu isn’t all show like Chris was.

Maybe he’s keeping his cards close to his chest. We have bigger concerns with the team than social media. Plus he’s very active on twitter, where a lot of recruiting happens.

Didn’t mean to hit a nerve.

Players follow social media accounts as a way of knowing more about a program before they engage with a coach and vice versa. For my daughter, I consider it her due diligence - nothing to be ashamed about in researching.

I know there are hard feelings in Missoula- but calling Citowicki “all show” is ridiculous. He’s moved on, and the UM program needs to move forward as well.

That’s all I’m saying - use SM to highlight coach Gore’s philosophy, the personality of the team, the beauty of Missoula, etc.

THIS is the best recruiting tool possible for fans and players! It should be at the top of every SM account for Griz soccer. I’m not crying, you are 😭

I don’t think anyone is saying recruits pick a school because of social media. They pick based on fit, and social media gives them frequent glimpses of that fit. Programs need to be visible where recruits actually are. Pew’s 2024 teen data has Instagram at 63% overall, and 72% for older teens, ages 15–17. X is about 16% overall. For high school girls being recruited, Instagram is clearly the bigger audience, and it is not really close.

Social media does not replace winning, coaching, fit, or relationships, and I am sure Coach Gore is keeping some things close to the vest. My point was simply that any social media helps, regardless of platform, though some platforms clearly reach recruits/transfers better than others. It helps them see the team, the school, and the culture, and decide whether it lines up with what they value. As NorCalGrizzy said, social media is part of their due diligence, so go where the recruits/transfers are and do it consistently.

Social Media is the number 1 way a player/parent/potential recruit gets to initially see what your program is about, especially for smaller schools like Montana that don't get much publicity. Twitter is the number 1 platform for players and coaches to communicate with each other. Coach Gore and Coach J have done a good job posting and reposting on Twitter, some of there posts received over 1K views.

While social media is good, winning and playing for championships is the best recruitment. Once the season get's closer you will see more social media content.

Are you or your or her friends following Coach Gore/Montana on Twitter. If not you should be, it’s the number 1 platform for soccer/coach accounts. Coach Gore & J have been more active on Twitter than most coaches during this time period. He is his latest post

Yes, indeed! But as GrizVibes mentioned, Twitter/X is not the preferred platform for teenage girls, they like instagram and TikTok.

X was more prevalent as a recruiting tool when my son was being recruited 5+ years ago.

Majority of my daughter’s teammates coach/recruiting contacts now are through DM and texts. I’ll be able to update our experience after June 15 ;-)

I would disagree, Twitter is the main platform since COVID, there is a reason why before major showcases, coaches go on Twitter with a logo of the event there attending and say drop/tag us your schedule. Look at the transfer portal communication all through Twitter.

So most of y'all sound like you might be fairly knowledgeable on soccer tactics and can probably answer a question I've wondered for a while. We've had a recent history of several amazing goalies and I've been wondering how much of it was the goalies and how much of it was the defensive players/scheme in front of them. I get it's probably a mix of both but is it a 50/50 mix? 70/30? Thanx in advance.
