Can we get a New AD please?

Yes, has been overdue.

Dr. Jeremiah Shinn will officially take over on July 1. Will be interesting to see if and when he starts making leadership decisions and changes (if any) at the U. Does anyone know when Kent's contract is officially up?
Here's the egriz discussion about it: https://egriz.com/threads/a-new-era-at-um-welcome-president-shinn.99999/post-1811295

@Griz til I die took a look at the contract and it was supposed to automatically extend for 5 months if an extension/new agreement wasn't met in February - so he's "on contract" until November 30 - which would give Shinn a few months of observation and a chance to make a decision.

I think I was slightly wrong about that. I believe if he's non-renewed, then he still gets 5 months of pay through November 30. I don't think that means he gets to remain on the job until November 30.

Makes sense. I still sorta doubt Shinn would just change direction immediately after arriving, but we'll see I guess!

Ya IDK. I could see it either way. He still has a little over a month before he starts and I'm sure he has been using this time to evaluate the current state of UM. Depending on how much he thinks he needs to make immediate changes to the President's cabinet, then he could be chomping at the bit to make changes upon his first day on the job. Hard to say though. I would think he'd want his own people in all of these leadership roles, but how much of a sense of urgency does he have? It'll be fascinating IMO.

I agree with this, there us way more to the job than many think. look at the upgrades in facilities with more to come, not having bad boys or girls to deal with etc. Be careful of what you wish for
I’m not sure how the narrative came to be about “inspiring fans” or “having bad boys or girls to deal with”???

A proper AD:

Fundraises like hell.
Improves facilities.
Brings a fanbase, community and university together by means of the athletic department.
Puts people in positions to succeed.

Amongst many other things. These 4 listed are the largest tasks put at the forefront of the job.

I may be living in a completely delusional state thinking that The University of Montana has been and will forever be one of the greatest places on earth.

I would love to see someone in charge that shares my enthusiasm for U of M. It is my personal opinion that we can do better than Haslam. It also makes me happy that so many of you disagree with this notion because I want the U to be in good hands!

I am not entirely aligned with you at this point although I do think there is some pressure on Kent.

Your list did not include what I believe is evaluation criteria #1 - winning.

Take emotion out of it and look at the reality of athletic budgets and momentum and figure out if we are moving forward or backward or stuck in neutral and that should lead to which direction Shinn should go. Hopefully the right voices are giving him the real perspective and not the sugar coated version.

Bringing in a new football coach with some juice has been awesome to see. I would love to see the same juice out of our AD. I’ve been outspoken on here time and time again about my personal experiences around Kent. I’m very much not a fan!

Let’s get a genuine and rad person in here to properly represent our university!! U of M is an incredible place and a dream job for lot of people. Let’s upgrade!!

Thoughts?

Don't look for any changes from Shinn until after a full academic and athletic year. Remember he has to look over the full landscape of AD's duties that include all gender sports and all minor sports like lacrosse, tennis, volleyball, etc.

Haslam needs to go. Has absolutely zero vision to speak of and is mediocre in general. We could do so much better.

Would love to see Shinn bring in someone with a distinct plan for the future.

Just like old underwear that have outlived their purpose and need to be upgraded, the same can be said about Haslam. He served his purpose, but now it's time for an upgrade.

That’s who he meant. That sounds like something Jim would do, not Kent. Kent has been a massive downgrade from Jim. Anyone who says otherwise is simply uninformed
Jim was a solid guy and effective. Haslam has been the guy you hire to steer the boat while you look for a better pilot, then forget that he still has the job, mostly because he hasn't sunk the ship.
