As part of the partnership, Dan Monahan, general manager of The Edgewater Missoula and president of the Missoula TBID, announced that the Missoula TBID will invest $100,000 over the next year into the university's athletic program to help promote events that bring students, alumni and nonresidents into the city. The TBID funding comes from a $4 assessment visitors pay for every hotel night stay in Missoula. All TBID funds stay local and can only be used by the TBID for the promotion of tourism in Missoula.

Interesting. It is self evident that many local businesses profit from Griz Football...

It is less self evident that those businesses partition some of these gains back to Griz Football.

As a consumer, how would someone determine which give back and which do not?

Asking for someone who has money to spend on Griz Football weekends...

Awesome, I have contributed greatly to this with all my hotel stays in zoo town.

I’ve spoken with Marcus regarding signage or window stickers that say something like “This business supports The University of Montana NIL”.

During the season you should come join a group of us who gather on Friday evenings for a soirée at The Still Room…the owner is a great supporter of UM athletics.

This actually is a great point.

I too spend thousands of dollars a year in Missoula businesses attending games. It would be really nice if I could easily determine, say, which hotels actively support UM. Not even just athletics, although that would be great. But if I know they donate a significant sum to the general fund, I'm far more likely to stay there than a place which doesn't.

Yeahhhh, I've attended the Friday Still Room soiree. My liver has yet to recover....

That’s great that the TBID will be giving the athletic department a $100k. The press release didn’t say what the money would be used for, but I hope it goes to NIL.

This doesn't sound like NIL.

Looks like all hotels participate as they note $4 per room charge that goes the TBID, the source of the funds.

I agree for bars and restaurants, would be a good thing to have Marcus and the athletics dept team put together and distribute... a list of all the bars and restaurants that support griz NIL. It would influence where my money is spent, for sure.

I directly asked Kent Haslam on the record where the $100,000 will go. He said directly to the revenue share. In other words, directly to NIL efforts for student athletes. Marcus Welnel and Greg Sundberg helped broker the deal.

That’s great news! Same deal with the concerts right?
