MBBALL Josiah Sanders transfers in

If this fails Travis will get some fair criticism. I like the guards but the lack of size is troubling. They just can’t be done..
He has always been over the top guard heavy. Hard to argue his results with it. But I have to admit I’m very concerned about our lack of big dudes. I don’t consider 6’6 and 6’7 as “bigs” really anymore in this league and with what the portal could do. I wanted to see at least one more 6’10 dude at the worst.

You can get taller guys that don’t play “big.” In the last 7-8 years the two best inside offensive players might have been Sayeed Pridgett and Joe Pridgen and they were both what 6’4? Aquino was a true freshman and he was still a solid post up player. He will get even better. The issue in my opinion with the lack of size is way more on the defensive end. As it has been in many seasons. 2024-25 season had guards that could rebound like Vasquez, Whitney and Kai Johnson and I think this season Griz will need similar contributions from guards with a smaller lineup.

How tall a player is, can be far less important than many other factors. Like you mentioned, body type, athletic ability, skill level, attitude, desire all play a more significant role in the overall success of any player. I don't know who said this originally, but it is the size of the fight in the dog more than the size of the dog in the fight. When I think about some of the best post players at Weber over the years, many have been in the 6'4'' to 6'6'' range and a few were 6'0'' to 6'3''. Sure, we have had some 6'8'' to 7'4'' guys who were very effective as well, but they are not in the majority.

I heard Al Maguire once say he didn't care how tall his rebounders were as long as they had big butts.

You’re right about Pridgett for sure…was a beast on the boards and plugged up the lanes with his strength too
