Wa Griz West Side expansion

I know there haven’t been any plans of stadium expansion recently but I’ve been hearing for years that we need to improve press boxes and expand high end seating. I’d love to see the west side mirror the eastside and add roughly 2,000 seats to the stadium. I don’t think it would over extend demand plus we’d be able to hit 30,000 for big games.

Obviously it comes down to finances and I believe there are a lot of fans right now who would be willing to contribute. I know I would. Current administration doesn’t seem to have a plan even though this has been talked about for years…

Anyone have any information or advice for how we can make a difference and help push this thing forward?

There’s some fundraising going on behind the scenes. If you wanna contribute, I suggest reaching out to Haslam!

For real? I didn’t know about the super secret fundraising (my favorite due to all the sense it makes). I had a sizable gift to make toward this expansion, but I ended up donating the money to a fundraising project I knew about. 🤷‍♂️

Not saying I agree with it but there’s still does appear to be a quiet phase going on now.

Quite the contrast compared to over the hill where their AD seems to be soliciting for donations from everyone with a pulse and in any amount. Gives the appearance of a program supported by a community versus by a few with deep pockets. Costello didn’t reinvent the wheel, he’s using the same formula SDSU employed during his time as an SDSU associate AD. when they were actively fundraising to close the gap in their arms race with NDSU.

Bingo. Need new leadership. Most people were fed up with Hauck and his inability to use social media to get recruits and promote the football program. Same thing is happening

Seems to be the theme with the AD Dept, makes no sense, new president will change this. Why not get the public excited build momentum.

On the other hand - if a project is $110,000,000 announcing it to get a bunch of $500 donations isn't going to help much, and if it takes too long to fundraise the cost to do the project is most likely going to be way higher. You need those first few big "anchor" donors to really set a timeline.

If I recall there was a Big Sky school that announced a major new plan without any real backing to it (maybe Idaho State 15 years ago or so) and then were completely lambasted for making such a major announcement and then never actually getting it off the ground.

EWU's $25M Gateway Project lol

This is a fantastic way to keep your anchor/sub-anchor donors few and within the inner circle. May they never die nor run out of money they are willing to give.

And the Gateway Project at EWU was never going anywhere. I certainly hope we aren’t using the fucking Eagles as a cautionary tale regarding booster support for improvements.

I get that, but why not just release renderings and put out a donate now link and just don’t tell anyone what the price tag is? A way to keep people excited and get what you can raise from the public and then still chase big boosters behind the scenes.

Sac State's "new" stadium also comes to mind

West stadium remodel has been in the works for at least the last ten years. Instead, priorities went to the benefit of the student athletes...locker rooms, softball fields, and other improvements...not a bad thing! Once those are out of the way I think emphasis will go back to the stadium and will hit up boosters hard. If they want it they will come. Unfortunately, Kent has had his hands tied with the budget and now with rev share and NIL the stadium process is screwed unless boosters step up. And for future relationship donations, I think the Athletic Department blew it moving Sundberg to a full time AD instead of leaving him running the GSA. Followed the past where both Kent and Jim O'Day started and were very successful at the GSA but were promoted to be groomed as the next AD. Seems like that's the plan with Greg! Colton's good but not at the level of Jim, Kent or Greg. He's basically steering straight the classic car he was given but not doing things to increase the value.

Completely unrelated but does anyone know what the $35 per ticket facility fee is for? I think this was added last season. I assume to lower “ticket “ prices while keeping revenue high for playoff pricing, and not for facility costs or upgrades?

Every seat has a fee which goes to Rev share, this includes concerts as well.

Until the composition of NCAA football is decided, with the FCS becoming more like Division II, and the expense of moving into a lower form of FBS, I don’t don’t see the reason. Then if we go full throated FBS, with much higher ticket prices, expect less affordability to fill the seats. No facts, JMHO.

I completely disagree about the micro-gifts. Every Griz fan should be given the opportunity to contribute whatever they can through a public campaign. Not just the Washington and other notable families and former players.
