MBBALL Brackets Time

The problem with Arizona in the tournament recently as in the end of the Sean Miller era and the Tommy Lloyd era is the team’s strength has primarily been the big men and teams with good guards have been able to upset them. Arizona this year is more balanced. Their point guard and shooting guard are both very good.

That shows in their ball movement this time around. Interesting note: Glanced at the box score and it turns out every starter was credited with at least two assists.

No big upsets today, although some were closer than expected. For example, Wright State led Virginia at the half and lost by just 9 points.

Santa Clara took Kentucky into OT, but could not pull it out (would not have been a huge upset anyway).

Something could still happen, but it’s not looking good for the underdogs.

First time since the field expanded to 64 that not a single 13-14-15 took a game in back-to-back years. It’s very hard to deny that NIL and unlimited transfers are increasing the talent disparity in CBB. The “Madness” in March Madness is now mostly just underseeded P4s beating higher seeded P4s.

Duke and the refs slowly pulling away from TCU. See "Nixon"....I call him the big Russian who struts around Dahlberg sometimes ....is on the Duke take.

Most Duke shots result in TCU fouls. Most TCU shots and some Duke goaltends result in silence from the whistles.

They turned the game....the big Russian will start to "even it up" now.

Sadly, because of that growing disparity, giving lesser conferences auto-bids now mostly serves one purpose: A few extra-skilled players get to show off ... possibly late bloomers or perhaps the P4 scouts somehow missed them. Those oversights will soon be corrected, assuming they have some eligibility left.

Not really into that genre, but I saw a note in passing that claimed a really good point guard can easily command six figures, or more.

The one purpose is antitrust.

Oh well, if you insist. :) (I agree, by the way.)

But let's not overlook the be-all beyond that ... $$$. The TV (and now streaming) networks love to hype March Madness and they've sucked us into watching some fairly pathetic games. For advertising, it all pretty much pays the same.

Wow! High Point is trading the lead back and forth with Arkansas deep into the 2nd quarter. Would be a huge upset.

Slim pickin' today if you're into "Cinderella." Pretty much down to Utah State out of the MWC ... and they don't really qualify as a Cinderella, IMO. I think they'll give Arizona a tussle, but see little chance for an upset. I suppose St. Johns out of the Big East might be marginally there, but just barely, if that. OTOH, their game against Kansas might be one of the best of the day.

i dunno, maybe it's just me, but i think this is the most boring ncaa tournament in a long while.

Most of the upsets were high major teams that had worse seeds for example Texas last night is an 11 seed that played in Dayton.

Won't disagree. There have been some close, exciting games (FWIW, the end of the Nebraska-Vanderbilt game was about as exciting as it gets), but not many actual upsets.

With all single-digit seeds matched up today, we could at least hope for some competitive games. Mmmm ... not so much, so far. The Miami-Purdue game was decent, with some back-and-forth thru the 1st half. But after Purdue took the lead with about 18 min left, the Boilermakers slowly dribbled out to a dull 10-point win.

Kentucky played one half of good BBall, then Iowa Stated crushed them in the 2nd half.

The two games going on right now aren't bad, so we can still hope.
