LadyGriz WISH LIST FOR LADY GRIZ

I'm watching the Minnesota State High School Girls Basketball Tournament and Duluth Marshall has a really good 6' sophomore guard the Lady Griz should go after by the name of Chloe Johnson. Duluth is in the northeastern part of Minnesota on the shores of Lake Superior and is the closest to Montana of any part of the state of Minnesota. The highest point of Minnesota, Eagle Mountain is near Duluth. Lots of national and state pine forests nearby. Lots of outdoor activities near Duluth with one of the most pristine areas in the United States within an hour drive. Duluth is about the size of Missoula with a population close to 90,000. Did I mention she plays AAU with the Minnesota Fury?

Love Duluth. I lived in Marquette Michigan (KI Sawyer AFB) for two years & passed through on my way back home to Missoula. Except for the lake (!) Duluth sort of reminded me of Missoula.

x2 6'2-3, C/f, fast, strong ,mobile, shoots in/out paint, blocks/bounds, gritty, can do attitude. Summer training for existing team up tempo, aggressiveness to include attitude, snappy tight ball play, bounds bounds, bounds. Strenght/agility training--Waddington build up strength, fortify leadership role. Broaden/expand offense schemes. Practice hard/play hard, dribble drive to the hoop, shots that count.
Study/watch videos of past season play, watch videos of teams that execute well, that might include past LG Robin Selvig era. I'll say this only once..."Play like Shannon Cate". That was easy!

I have a friend I went to med school with that practices is Duluth. He keeps telling me to move there hahaha. I know they have a decent D2 team there for FB and have good hockey.

Edit. I thought I responded to Grizzlyjournal loving Duluth, sorry, thread is not about me 😆

I have been saying for a few years Montana needs to get the Stoker girl From CSI
She was conference players of the year and tournament MVP.
Her brother said Idaho is after her.

What are the ways she might contribute?

She has been offered by Idaho
Yeah her brother told me that.
She will have a great chance to showcase her skills in Louisiana for the tournament.

Consistent scorer 16.7 points per game, great defender 94 steals in 32 games.
5'10 decent rebounder 113 offensive / 112 defensive.

Not a great three point shooter and can increase her FT above her 68 %.

Now I'm very biased she grew up across the street and I've watched her since she started playing in 3rd grade. She has always worked very hard at every sport she has played.

Great from 15 and in....correct she does need to improve shooting. Little undersized for the 4 position. But motor is solid and that is a trait the all coaches want in a player.

She also just received POY in her conference.

Sounds good, especially the go getter part along with if smart player, strong , fast and agile. Any injuries? I counted 5-7 players currently on the LG roster with that size range, forward positions.

From what people are saying LG need a legit big and shooters. She doesnt fit that for what they need based on Stokers nunbers and skill set.

The LG do have a former teammate of hers in Gillette so they should be aware of her.

Agree, Duluth, of all of the towns in Minnesota, reminds me the most of Missoula. That's a long drive from Marquette, MI to Missoula

When Kennedy Gillette got more playing time, I thought she performed very well and may have earned herself a starting role next year or 6th player.

Avory Decoite looks to be a great two way player who can score from all three levels. I can't wait to see how she does in the Griz offense.

Kenzi Schmitz at Big Sky should be another girl the Griz are strongly considering.

Kennedy is interesting, agree getting more minutes helps. But more than that what I observed end of season and tourney, she played with much more grit, up tempo, fired up. Not sure where that came from, I'm guessing coached. She ought to have played that way more often in the season. Next season!

What's that coaches saying....towards the end of the season the best thing about Freshmen is they become Sophomores. Wonder if that's the case here.

True that, but Kennedy is a Jr, a transfer from a small college in Idaho, maybe finally adjusting to D1 level of play? On the other hand, I observed the whole team more intense, fired up end of season, definitely at tourney play. So my best guess coaching influence, "We want the game face on, go get um, play with attitude, give it all ya got". I personally would have suggested this about mid season. Maybe just me but I'd observed some of the players responses on court after personal goof ups...a sort of smiling, giddy look. Not sure what that means, maybe just owning it, take it lightly, move on? Maybe that's the new game psychology, or something...my old school take might have been....we don't enjoy fubs, less of that ,get serious!

Nobody is gonna like this but, while I agree Kennedy was good enough to play on a terrible Lady Griz team, she is average at-best for D1,IMO. If we can't find someone better than her, we will be in the bottom half of the Big Sky again next year,
