A couple of items to share from the FCS Oversight Committee meeting late last month:

1) Playing all DI opponents will be important for playoff resumes:The FCSOC reviewed a recommendation from the FCS Championship Committee to update the at-large selection criteria policy to include prioritization of teams who competed against at least 11 Division I opponents. The FCSOC voted to amend the recommended policy language to allow the FCS Championship Committee to give more consideration to teams that have played all Division I opponents and/or a greater number of Division I opponents. Specifically, it approved the following language: “The committee will give more consideration to teams that have played all Division I opponents and/or a greater number of Division I games”.

2) The FCS championship game is currently scheduled for Monday, Jan. 4. With the NFL regular season ending Jan. 10, the NCAA is looking into potentially moving the FCS title game to Jan. 11:The FCSOC approved a Legislative Relief Waiver to permit the final date for postseason competition to occur on the second Monday of January in 2027 (January 11, 2027). A legislative relief waiver provides appropriate notice in the championship planning process. The committee’s proposal to modify the final date for postseason competition in FCS will be considered during the June 2026 legislative cycle.

Really wish they would keep the championship game on the 4th of January and FBS finally decides conference championship games are worthless and streamlines so all divisions are on the same schedule and playoff format. Pigs will also need to fly given the money involved. How many penny’s can we squeeze out of this sport before it bursts.

With all D1 schedules being more important I won't miss playing D2 schools, I'd rather replace them with a PAC or MWC opponent to potentially boost our resume.

Don't know why an FBS loss or blowout would be better than a D2 win, especially against a top D2 like Ferris. I assume UM will continue to schedule D2's for the foreseeable future.

And in the latest news, water is wet....

Why would we do that when it will now negatively effect us when it comes to Playoff selection? That'd be really stupid on our part, better to have all D1 teams (FBS or FCS) to increase our chances to get to the postseason should we ever have years where we're on the bubble.

More games against Mercyhurst.

Because the goal of scheduling is not just to make the playoffs. It's also to make big money at home games. I can't think of any year that the Griz wouldn't have made the playoffs, when they did make it, had the new D2 rule been in place. The only year I recall UM being on the bubble, they didn't make the playoffs.

I'd rather play Ferris St and Central Washington than Mercyhurst. And Mercyhurst problems get a bigger fee than the other two, due to the travel costs.

Zero reason to play Ferris and CWU.

If the Griz are depending on playing 12 D1 vs an 11D1/1D2 schedule to make the playoffs, then we had a shitty team by our standards with too many losses and honestly probably don't deserve the playoffs anyway.

Scheduling some lower-tier FBS schools that should have the talent comparable to ours would also be an excellent litmus test each year.

Actually, there are a lot of reasons to play Wyoming or Nevada, but that's precluded by the financial barrier. They won't / can't pay us enough equal our revenue take for a home game, irrespective of its quality.
Comment was solely based on making the playoffs, getting the best seed, and possibly winning the Championship. Zero reason to schedule anything but 12 FCS opponents to achieve the goal.
